Summary: This study analyzed urine microbiome profiles to explore the potential of the urine microbiome as a biomarker for pediatric ADHD. The ADHD group showed decreased alpha diversity and significant beta diversity differences compared to the control group. The genus Afipia exhibited significant correlations with ADHD symptoms, suggesting its potential as a biomarker for ADHD.

Summary: This study compared the levels of mindfulness in children with ADHD and typically developing children, as well as their mothers. The findings showed that children with ADHD and their mothers had significantly lower levels of mindfulness compared to typically developing children and their mothers. This suggests that childhood mental disorders like ADHD can reduce mindfulness in children and their mothers.

Summary: The study examines the impact of relative age on mental health, specifically in preterm infants. The results show that being relatively young within a school class is associated with an increased likelihood of psychostimulant prescription, and this effect persists into young adulthood for preterm individuals.

Summary: The study reviewed the association of long-term MPH exposure with height, weight, and timing of puberty in ADHD individuals. MPH was found to have consistent significant effects on reducing height and weight, with more prominent impacts observed in the initial months of treatment. Limited data were available on the timing of puberty. Prospective studies are needed to further explore the underlying biological mechanisms and potential clinical implications.

Summary: This study examined the diagnostic indicators, clinical characteristics, and functional impairment associated with adult ADHD using electronic medical records and self-report measures. The results showed a significant difference in prevalence of ADHD between self-report screening and medical records. ADHD was found to contribute to functional impairment even when controlling for other psychiatric comorbidities.

Summary: In this study, we found that the use of polygenic risk scores can modestly identify the presence of mood disorders. These findings extend evidence for transdiagnostic genetic components of psychiatric illness and demonstrate that PRSs calculated using traditional diagnostic boundaries can be useful within a transdiagnostic framework.

Summary: This study compared the participation, support, and barriers for children with ADHD at home pre-COVID-19 and during the COVID-19 outbreak. Results showed a significant increase in participation frequency in activities like computer games, socializing, and household chores during the COVID-19 period. Mothers reported higher involvement levels and easier participation due to reduced cognitive and social demands, as well as more readily available resources in the home environment during the COVID-19 period.

Summary: Emotional dysregulation is common in ADHD. This study investigates the effectiveness of immediate- and extended-release methylphenidate in the treatment of emotional dysregulation in children with ADHD and ASD. The results demonstrate that methylphenidate is associated with a significant reduction in emotional dysregulation in both ADHD and ASD, without substantial adverse events.

Summary: ADHD is a common neurodevelopmental disorder in children, with diagnosis based on clinical evaluation and interviews with parents and teachers. Reliable biomarkers for clinical diagnosis are still lacking. Infrared spectroscopy offers a promising approach to distinguish ADHD patients from healthy individuals.

Summary: This study investigated the role of dispositional mindfulness in moderating the association between brooding rumination and sleep problems in adolescents with and without attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The results showed that dispositional mindfulness could buffer the negative impact of brooding rumination on adolescent sleep.

Summary: In their recent examination of the Monitoring the Future (MTF) data, McCabe et al. (Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, 2023) investigate the relationship between stimulant medication treatment for adolescents with ADHD and their risk for substance use. Their nuanced findings suggest an increased risk for illicit stimulant use and non-prescribed stimulant medication use in youth who initiate treatment later and have shorter treatment duration. The authors highlight the clinical implications and recommend further research to clarify this important issue.

Summary: Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Treatment options for ADHD include psychoeducation, pharmacological interventions, and non-pharmacological interventions. There is a need for improvement in current pharmacotherapeutic strategies and the development of novel medications.

Summary: This study provides a systematic review and analysis of the effectiveness of electroencephalogram-based neurofeedback (EEG-NF) in treating the core symptoms of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adolescents/adults. The results suggest that EEG-NF can effectively improve inattention symptoms, but its effectiveness in reducing hyperactivity/impulsivity remains inconclusive.

Summary: Neuroimaging has been extensively used to study brain structure and function in individuals with ADHD and ASD. However, there have been limitations in the current literature, such as small sample sizes and heterogeneous methods. To address these limitations, the ENIGMA-ADHD and ENIGMA-ASD working groups were established to collaborate on large-scale neuroimaging projects. The findings so far have shown overlap and unique differences in cortical structures between ASD and ADHD. Ongoing work is exploring other research questions.

Summary: This study introduces the first German Open Scale of Social Information Processing (GOSSIP) and evaluates its psychometric properties. GOSSIP is a model-based standardized assessment tool for assessing social information processing in boys and girls aged eight to 21 years. The results show that GOSSIP has good internal consistency and convergent validity, and can be used to classify individuals into social information processing profiles and contribute to the development of targeted interventions. The study also highlights the important role of shame in social information processing and the development of psychopathology.
