Summary: The study found that the frequencies of AHA and AIDA in SSc were significantly higher compared to other cardiac disease groups and normal blood donors, suggesting a high burden of underdiagnosed autoimmune heart involvement in SSc. AHA was associated with interstitial lung disease, chest pain history, abnormal troponin, AIDA, and current immunosuppression, as well as death and overall cardiac events during follow-up.

Autoantibody-Specific Signalling in Pemphigus

Summary: Pemphigus is a severe autoimmune disease that impairs barrier functions of the epidermis and mucosa by targeting desmosomal adhesion molecules Dsg1 and Dsg3. Therapy for pemphigus is focusing on specific suppression of autoantibody formation, but additional treatment options to stabilize desmosomes during acute phase and relapses may be beneficial. Autoantibodies interfere with desmosome adhesion through inhibiting Dsg adhesion and engaging signaling pathways, leading to different clinical pemphigus phenotypes.

TG2-gluten complexes as antigens for gluten-specific and transglutaminase-2 specific B cells in celiac disease

Summary: A hallmark of celiac disease is the production of antibodies specific for deamidated gluten peptides and transglutaminase 2, believed to result from B cells receiving help from gluten-specific CD4(+) T cells. This study demonstrates that multivalent TG2-gluten complexes are efficient antigens for both TG2-specific and DGP-specific B cells, allowing both types of B cells to receive help from gluten-specific T cells of many different specificities.

Summary: This study identified stress-inducible phosphoprotein 1 (STIP1) as a potential neuroprotective factor targeted by PD-specific autoantibodies. Clinical and neuro-immunological studies revealed high levels of STIP1 autoantibodies in PD patients and identified four PD-specific B cell epitopes. This suggests the possible involvement of autoimmune mechanisms in PD and highlights the potential of STIP1 as an endogenous neuroprotective agent.

Tertiary lymphoid structures as local perpetuators of organ-specific immune injury: implication for lupus nephritis

Summary: This article describes the potential role of tertiary lymphoid structures (TLS) in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, focusing on lupus nephritis. The presence of TLS in the kidneys is associated with severe inflammation, higher disease activity, and poor response to treatment. TLS may contribute to the development of lupus nephritis by increasing local immune response and supporting the production of autoantibodies. However, the mechanisms underlying TLS formation and their exact role in lupus nephritis are not fully understood.

White matter markers and predictors for subject-specific rTMS response in major depressive disorder

Summary: This study utilized novel dMRI analysis to investigate microstructural changes related to rTMS treatment response in 21 MDD patients, finding that rTMS significantly affected the white matter microstructure in the anterior-medial prefrontal fiber bundles, while changes in lateral prefrontal tracts were correlated with treatment response. Further research with larger datasets is needed to fully understand the impact of rTMS on structural connectivity in MDD patients.

Role of biochemical markers and autoantibodies in diagnosis of early-stage primary biliary cholangitis

Summary: This study aimed to explore the clinical characteristics of early-stage primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and to identify PBC in the early clinical stage for prompt treatment and monitoring. The study collected data from 82 patients with confirmed PBC and analyzed their general data, serum biochemistry, immunoglobulins, and autoimmune antibodies. The results showed that ALT and AST levels were normal or mildly elevated in early-stage PBC patients, while GGT levels were more robustly elevated. Additionally, some patients had normal ALP levels.

Summary: Systemic autoimmune and inflammatory diseases are complex and only partially understood, involving abnormalities in various components of the immune system. Antibodies, particularly autoantibodies, play a key role in autoimmunity. The interaction between antibody fragment crystallisable (Fc) and Fc receptors (FcRs) has attracted much attention recently, with potential therapeutic prospects in the future. This review comprehensively describes the roles of known FcRs in systemic autoimmune and inflammatory disorders, including rheumatoid arthritis, Sjögren's syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, and other related diseases.

Summary: CTD-PAH is a life-threatening complication of connective tissue diseases characterized by increased pulmonary arterial pressure and resistance. Due to non-specific symptoms and lack of consensus on screening strategies, CTD-PAH is often diagnosed at an advanced stage. Non-invasive tools, particularly novel serum biomarkers, may improve early diagnosis and disease monitoring of CTD-PAH.

This study presents the short-term efficacy of intravenous (IV) anakinra, an IL-1 receptor blocker, in patients with newly-diagnosed AOSD or upcoming macrophage activation syndrome (MAS).

Predictors of flare in SLE patients fulfilling lupus low disease activity state: a cohort study of 292 patients with 36-month follow-up

Summary: Spondyloarthritis (SpA) is a group of chronic inflammatory diseases affecting the axial and peripheral joints, tendons, and entheses. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is strongly associated with SpA and has significant impacts on patients' quality of life. Effective treatment requires close collaboration between gastroenterologists and rheumatologists to identify and manage joint and intestinal manifestations, and current drug options for both conditions remain limited.

Summary: Several studies show that age at onset has an impact on the clinical-serological presentation, comorbidities and disease course of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This study evaluated the correlation between age at onset and clinical-serological manifestations and comorbidities in patients with recent onset SLE. The results showed that early onset SLE had a more active immunological profile, while late onset SLE had a higher incidence of comorbidities.
