Summary: Selenium is an essential trace element for human health, but a balanced intake is crucial for maximizing its health benefits. High selenium intake above physiological levels may increase diabetes risk and result in endothelial dysfunction. Selenium induces cancer cell apoptosis via endoplasmic reticulum stress, but its role in endothelial dysfunction remains unknown.

Summary: This study found that Ang-(1-9) could inhibit Ang II-induced hypertension and attenuate arterial blood pressure by acting on endothelial cells. Its mechanism involves the CNPY2/PERK signaling pathway, which inhibits endothelial apoptosis by blocking mitochondrial fission and eIF2 alpha/CHOP signal.

Summary: Ketamine-induced cystitis results in bladder hyperactivity and injury by activating autophagy, apoptosis, and endoplasmic reticulum stress-related markers. Salubrinal can reverse the effects of ketamine on complex formation and related markers. Transfection with shIRE1 can offset the effects of ketamine on cells.

Summary: This study demonstrates that MCLR causes damage to the male reproductive system and enhances autophagy, indicating the essential role of autophagy in MCLR-induced cell death. Furthermore, the study reveals the involvement of ER stress-related autophagy pathway in MCLR-induced apoptosis and injury in the male reproductive system.

Summary: Choroidal melanoma is commonly found in adults and lithium chloride has been shown to induce apoptosis in leukemia cells. In this study, lithium chloride was found to inhibit cell survival and clonogenic potential, induce apoptosis, and reduce proliferation of choroidal melanoma cells both in vitro and in vivo. The upregulation of NOXA and downregulation of Mcl-1 were identified as key factors in lithium chloride-induced apoptosis.

Summary: The study reveals the anticancer effects of cryptotanshinone (CPT) in colorectal cancer (CRC) by activating autophagy signaling mediated by ER stress. CPT selectively inhibits the growth and proliferation of HCT116 and SW620 cells while having little effect on SW480 cells.

Summary: Uranium contamination induces excessive intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, which is considered as a possible mediator of kidney tubular cells injury and nephrotoxicity. This study found that U exposure triggers endoplasmic reticulum stress, apoptosis, and down-regulation of PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling. Administration of antioxidant N-acetylcysteine (NAC) effectively blocks ROS generation, ER stress, and apoptosis, and reverses the down-regulation of phosphorylated PI3K induced by U exposure.

Summary: This study investigated the toxicological effect and mechanism of Zearalenone (ZEA) exposure on reproduction in pigs during early stages of pregnancy. It was found that ZEA can cause cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, and autophagy in trophoblast ectoderm cells. Furthermore, inhibiting ER stress can reduce cell death, suggesting a critical role of ER stress in the activation of autophagy.

Summary: This study found that the regulatory role of HSP70 in ER level has different significance in pepsin-treated laryngeal epithelial cells and LC cells. Inhibition of HSP70 reduces the expression of GRP78 in pepsin-stimulated laryngeal epithelial cells and LC cells, and only inhibits apoptosis-related pathways in laryngeal epithelial cells. Inhibition of HSP70 and ER can promote apoptosis and inhibit tumor growth.
