THE 3.3μm POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC HYDROCARBON EMISSION AS A STAR FORMATION RATE INDICATOR

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) emission features dominate the mid-infrared spectra of star-forming galaxies and can be useful to calibrate star formation rates (SFRs) and diagnose ionized states of grains. However, the PAH 3.3 mu m feature has not been studied as much as other PAH features since it is weaker than others and resides outside of Spitzer capability. In order to detect and calibrate the 3.3 mu m PAH emission and investigate its potential as an SFR indicator, we carried out an AKARI mission program, AKARI mJy Unbiased Survey of Extragalactic Sources (AMUSES), and compared its sample with various literature samples. We obtained 2-5 mu m low-resolution spectra of 20 flux-limited galaxies with mixed spectral energy distribution classes, which yielded the detection of the 3.3 mu m PAH emission from 3 out of 20 galaxies. For the combined sample of AMUSES and literature samples, the 3.3 mu m PAH luminosities correlate with the infrared luminosities of star-forming galaxies, albeit with a large scatter (1.5 dex). The correlation appears to break down at the domain of ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs), and the power of the 3.3 mu m PAH luminosity as a proxy for the infrared luminosity is hampered at log[L-PAH3.3 erg(-1) s(-1)] > similar to 42.0. Possible origins for this deviation in the correlation are discussed, including contributions from active galactic nuclei and strongly obscured young stellar objects, and the destruction of PAH molecules in ULIRGs.

Summary: We used the James Webb Space Telescope to image NGC 7469 in the near-infrared and mid-infrared. The imaging revealed 66 star-forming regions, 37 of which were not detected by the Hubble Space Telescope. These newly identified regions show high levels of dust obscuration and contribute significantly to the overall infrared luminosity. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of JWST in uncovering hidden star formation in dense environments around active galactic nuclei.

Time-variable Jet Ejections from RW Aur A, RY Tau, and DG Tau*

Summary: We present observations of near-IR [Fe ii] emission from the jets of three active T Tauri stars, RW Aur A, RY Tau, and DG Tau, taken from 2012 to 2021. The velocities and sizes of the jets vary over time, and significant differences in velocities were found in the DG Tau jet between two time periods. The brightness of the individual knots in the emission decreased during our observations. Higher angular resolution observations are needed to better understand the physical nature of these knots.

Summary: The James Webb Space Telescope Time-Domain Field (JWST-TDF) is a field near the North Ecliptic Pole that will be observed by the JWST. The study describes the imaging and cataloging of submillimeter and radio sources in the JWST-TDF to aid in the study of dust-obscured galaxies. The results show that these galaxies have high star formation rates and large cool gas masses, suggesting a key factor necessary for their high star formation rates.

Globular Clusters in NGC 4839 Falling into Coma: Evidence for the Second Infall?

Summary: NGC 4839 is the brightest galaxy in the NGC 4839 group located southwest of the Coma cluster, and the debate lies in whether it is currently in the first or second phase of falling into Coma. A comparison between the globular cluster systems of NGC 4839 and NGC 4816 showed that the former is more compact and has a distinct drop in radial number density at approximately 80 kpc, while the latter exhibits a continuous decline even in the outer region. These findings suggest that NGC 4839 lost a significant number of globular clusters in its outskirts when passing through Coma, supporting the hypothesis of a second-infall scenario.

Summary: We used the NIRCam of the James Webb Space Telescope to investigate the young massive star cluster population in the luminous infrared galaxy VV 114. We identified 374 compact YMC candidates and found that 20% of them are undetected at optical wavelengths. The discovery of hidden sources in VV 114 significantly increased the number of young star clusters and confirmed a steep age distribution slope for all the massive star clusters.

Summary: We conducted high-cadence X-ray monitoring and continued optical monitoring of AT2019cuk and found no evidence of periodic/quasiperiodic modulation. However, we observed exotic hard X-ray variability, including repetitive hard X-ray flares with distinctly harder X-ray spectra. We proposed several models to explain the driving mechanism of these flares and concluded that the variable corona model is the most likely explanation. These findings highlight the importance of high-cadence X-ray monitoring in understanding rapid variability and call for further multiwavelength monitoring of changing-look AGN.

Summary: We present the observations of REBELS25, a massive and morphologically complex ULIRG at high redshift, and determine its properties such as mass and star formation rate. Our findings suggest that REBELS25 has the potential to evolve into a high-mass quiescent galaxy.

Summary: Large diffuse galaxies are difficult to find, but through a systematic search, this study has identified ultra-puffy galaxies (UPGs) and ultra-diffuse galaxies (UDGs) in Milky Way analogs. It has been found that each Milky Way analog has an average of 0.31 UPGs and 0.44 UDGs.

On the Effects of Local Environment on Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN) in the Horizon Run 5 Simulation

Summary: We used the Horizon Run 5 cosmological simulation to analyze the impact of intrinsic properties and the local environment on active galactic nuclei (AGNs). We found that the star formation rate of the host galaxy is highly correlated with AGN activity. Additionally, the nearest neighbor environment has a significant influence on the bolometric luminosity, star formation rate, kinematic properties, and gas mass of AGNs, especially when the neighbor is within half the virial radius.

Warm Molecular Gas in the Central Parsecs of the Buried Nucleus of NGC 4418 Traced with the Fundamental CO Rovibrational Absorptions

Summary: We investigated the inner nucleus of the nearby luminous infrared galaxy NGC 4418 using high-resolution spectroscopy. By analyzing carbon monoxide (CO) absorptions, we were able to examine the physical and kinematic properties in the hot inner region. Our findings suggest the presence of a significant amount of warm molecular gas surrounding a compact shroud of gas and dust.

The Early Light Curve of the Type Ia Supernova 2021hpr in NGC 3147: Progenitor Constraints with the Companion Interaction Model

Summary: In this study, high-cadence monitoring observations of SN 2021hpr in NGC 3147 were conducted to constrain the progenitor system of SN Ia. An early excess in the multicolor light curve was found and explained by shock-cooling emission from a companion star. No progenitor candidate was detected in the preexplosion images from the Hubble Space Telescope.

Parameter estimation of eccentric gravitational waves with a decihertz observatory and its cosmological implications

Summary: This paper investigates the improvement of parameter estimation for gravitational waves (GWs) from eccentric compact binaries. By studying typical binaries in GWTC-3, it is found that nonvanishing eccentricity can significantly enhance the estimation accuracy for most waveform parameters. The precise localization of binary neutron stars (BNS) and neutron star-black hole binaries (NSBH), along with the large improvement in localization of binary black holes (BBH), inspires the construction of catalogs containing uniquely identified host galaxies.
