Summary: Seaweed has gained increasing research attention in recent years, as it has been found that many active substances extracted from algae have various biological activities and applications in agriculture, medicine, and other fields. Porphyra, a type of red algae, is widely distributed and has high nutritional value. Porphyran extracted from Porphyra has demonstrated antioxidant, immune modulating, anti-aging, and hypoglycemic effects. The biological activity of oligo-porphyran, derived from the degradation of porphyran, is even superior to that of its source. Therefore, finding effective methods to degrade porphyran and identifying suitable porphyranases for the preparation of oligoporphyran is crucial.

Summary: In this study, the apricot polysaccharide was modified using ultrasound-assisted Fenton treatment, and the process conditions were optimized. The modified polysaccharide showed significant hypolipidemic activity, reducing fat accumulation and cholesterol levels. This suggests that ultrasound-assisted Fenton treatment is an effective method to enhance the hypolipidemic activity of polysaccharides.

Summary: This study investigated the lipid-lowering activity and mechanism of action of Sargassum fusiforme polysaccharide (SFP) using oxidative stress and high-fat HepG2 cell models. The results showed that SFP and its isolated fractions had antioxidant effects and decreased total cholesterol and triglyceride levels in high-fat cells. The study also revealed that SFPs achieve their hypolipidemic effect through multiple pathways, including the regulation of lipid metabolism-related key enzymes and factors, and binding with bile acids. SFPs developed in this study have potential as functional food ingredients with a hypolipidemic effect.

Summary: The research focused on analyzing the structural characteristics and hypolipidemic activity in vitro of G. lemaneiformis polysaccharide (GLP) and its degradation products. The results showed changes in chemical composition, particle size, and color brightness of GLP after degradation by H2O2-Vc, while thermal stability remained unaffected. Additionally, polysaccharide degradation led to significant differences in structure and activity.

Summary: An effective method was developed to extract polysaccharide from Sanghuangporus vaninii by destroying the cell wall. The extracted polysaccharide showed hypolipidemic activity and downregulated genes related to lipid accumulation. This study suggests that the purified polysaccharide may be a promising candidate in lipid regulation therapy.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effect of Inonotus obliquus polysaccharide (IOP) on blood lipids and its regulation on intestinal flora in hyperlipidemia rats. The results showed that IOP can reduce serum TC, TG, and LDL-C levels and increase serum HDL-C levels in rats. It also regulates the expression of proteins related to lipid metabolism in the liver and alleviates hepatocyte fatty degeneration. Moreover, IOP can affect the composition of intestinal flora, reducing the relative abundance of Firmicutes and increasing the relative abundance of Bacteroidetes.

Summary: By testing polysaccharide fractions from Halymenia floresii and Solieria chordalis, it was found that the polysaccharide fractions from Halymenia floresii have antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2, while those from Solieria chordalis do not. This study confirms that carrageenans can be used as a first-line treatment to inhibit the infection and transmission of SARS-CoV-2.
