A search for 6.7 GHz methanol masers in M33

We report the negative results from a search for 6.7 GHz methanol masers in the nearby spiral galaxy M33. We observed 14 GMCs in the central 4 kpc of the Galaxy, and found 3 sigma upper limits to the flux density of similar to 4 mJy at a velocity resolution of 0.35 km s(-1). By velocity shifting and combining the spectra from the positions observed, we obtain an effective 3 sigma upper limit on the average emission of similar to 1 mJy in a 0.25 km s(-1) channel. These limits lie significantly below what we would expect based on our estimates of the methanol maser luminosity function in the Milky Way. One possible explanation for the absence of detectable methanol masers appears to be the metallicity of M33, which is somewhat less than that of the Milky Way.

Summary: Previous estimates of galaxy atomic gas mass from 21-cm HI emission are systematically low and require correction due to the presence of a cold opaque atomic gas component. New observations show a preference for a multiple-component Gaussian model over a single opacity-corrected model, challenging previous assumptions. Further studies are needed to better understand the implications of these findings on the opaque atomic ISM mass and HI surface density relationships.

Gibbs point process model for young star clusters in M33

Summary: The study demonstrates the power of Gibbs point process models in analyzing the spatial distributions of objects in the star formation complexes of resolved galaxies, revealing the high correlation between GMCs and YSCCs. The spatial distribution of YSCCs exhibits a clustering pattern with a peak at about 250pc scale, mainly in regions with galactocentric distance greater than 4.5kpc. The properties of GMCs, such as galactocentric distance and mass, have a strong positive effect on the correlation strength between GMCs and YSCCs.

Clusters, clouds, and correlations: relating young clusters to giant molecular clouds in M33 and M31

Summary: By comparing young clusters and GMCs in M33 and M31, we can constrain temporal and spatial scales in the star formation process. Young clusters show a high probability of being near other young clusters, while the correlation between GMCs is suppressed by the cloud identification algorithm. Younger clusters are found to be closer to GMCs than older clusters. The total lifetime of the GMCs in M33 is estimated to be approximately 11-15 million years.

Probing infrared dark clouds with class I methanol masers and thermal molecular emission using the Onsala 20 meter telescope

Observations of 12.2 GHz methanol masers towards northern high-mass protostellar objects

The OH Megamaser emission in Arp 220: the rest of the story

Summary: The OH Megamaser emission in the merging galaxy Arp 220 has been re-observed with MERLIN and EVN. The imaging results confirm previous observations and reveal extended emission structures surrounding the nuclei. Detailed information about the emission components around the nuclei has been obtained with intermediate spatial resolution. The analysis indicates that the dominant OH line emission originates in foreground molecular material and confirms a maser amplification scenario.

Summary: By studying the molecular gas in the circumnuclear disk (CND) of the AGN-starburst composite galaxy NGC1068, it has been found that SiO and HNCO show distinct chemical differentiation. SiO traces gas affected by fast shocks, while HNCO traces gas possibly affected by slow shocks or not shocked at all.

Summary: This study presents new observations of molecular line emission in the central region of the double-barred spiral galaxy NGC 6946. The results show that HCO+ is highly correlated with the star formation rate surface density, but the behaviors of the dense gas fraction and star formation efficiency of the dense gas differ from expectations based on large-scale disc observations. Line ratio diagnostics reveal differences between different regions. Additionally, the study suggests that using the HCN/HNC ratio to probe kinetic temperatures is not suitable on kiloparsec and sub-kiloparsec scales, and the HCO+/HCN ratio might not be a unique indicator of AGN activity in galaxies.

The methanol emission in the J1 - J0 A-+ line series as a tracer of specific physical conditions in high-mass star-forming regions

Summary: We present the results of investigations on the properties of the methanol J(1) - J(0) A(-+) line series. By studying the maser emission in the 14(1) - 14(0) A(-+) line at 349 GHz in S255IR-SMA1, we found that the maser component decayed significantly compared to 2016. No clear maser emission was observed in other lines of this series, except for an additional bright component in the 7(1) - 7(0) A(-+) line with the same velocity as the earlier observed maser emission. The study also includes theoretical modeling and mini-survey of methanol lines towards bright 6.7-GHz methanol maser sources. Our findings suggest that the maser effect in the J(1) - J(0) A(-+) lines can serve as a tracer of hot environments and luminosity flaring events during high-mass star formation.

New ex-OH maser detections in the northern celestial hemisphere

Summary: The study aims to fill the research gap of ex-OH maser sources in the northern hemisphere by observing star-forming regions with active methanol masers. Three OH maser lines in excited state at 6035 MHz were detected in three northern hemisphere star-forming regions, with one of the masers potentially being variable. The magnetic field strength in the masering regions was estimated using pair splitting of right circular polarization and left circular polarization, showing comparatively small values in two of the star-forming regions.

A minimal space interferometer configuration for imaging at low radio frequencies

Summary: This paper proposes a novel minimal configuration for a space interferometer system to image the radio sky at frequencies below 20 MHz with angular resolutions comparable to those achieved at higher frequencies on the ground. Simulations show that this system can provide angular resolutions finer than 10 arcsec even at low frequencies, offering significant advantages in radio imaging.
