Photometric monitoring of the young star Par 1724 in Orion

We report new photometric observations of the similar to 200 000 year old naked weak-line run-away T Thuri star Par 1724, located north of the Trapezium cluster in Orion. We observed in the broad band filters B, V, R, and I using the 90 cm Dutch telescope on La Silla, the 80 cm Wendelstein telescope, and a 25 cm telescope of the University Observatory Jena in Gro beta schwabhausen near Jena. The photometric data in V and R are consistent with a similar to 5.7 day rotation period due to spots, as observed before between 1960ies and 2000. Also, for the first time, we present evidence for a long-term 9 or 17.5 year cycle in photometric data (V band) of such a young star, a cycle similar to that to of the Sun and other active stars. Multifilter observations of the complex periodic variations in eight pre-main sequence stars

Summary: Time series photometry of eight young stars using different combinations of BVRCIC filter sets is analyzed. Complex periodic variability is observed in seven stars through TESS photometry and one star through K2 observations. The periods of the stars range from -0.2 to 0.4 days. The new photometry shows different light curves compared to satellite missions, with generally larger amplitudes. The possibility of protoplanetary discs playing a role in the complex variability patterns is considered unlikely. Modeling of dust absorption in debris discs suggests an excess of small grains compared to the average Galactic composition is required.

Magnetospheric accretion at the late phases of the pre-main-sequence evolution: the case of RZ Psc

Summary: During the burst of accretion activity observed in 2013, the accretion rate of RZ Psc increased significantly, indicating the instability of the accretion process during late stages of pre-main sequence evolution. By studying the magnetospheric emission in the H alpha line, we calculated the parameters of the magnetosphere and considered the recombination delay effect during gas motion in the stellar magnetosphere. The absence of magnetospheric absorption in the D Na I resonance lines allowed us to estimate a lower limit on the magnetosphere temperature and improve the precision of the accretion rate estimate. The best-fitting model suggests a logarithm of accretion rate of logM≈-10.1 +/- 0.3 (≈7x10-11 M⊙yr-1) and an inclination angle of RZ Psc of 43 degrees +/- 3 degrees, which is lower than the typical inclination angle for UX Ori stars.

Accretion and Extinction Variations in the Low-mass Pre-main-sequence Binary System WX Cha

Summary: Light curves of young star systems show photometric variability mainly due to changing mass accretion rate. In this study, we conducted optical and infrared photometry measurements of the MO binary system WX Cha, which has an almost edge-on disk. We calculated the accretion luminosity and mass accretion rate and found that WX Cha has a higher accretion rate compared to T Tauri stars in the same star-forming region. We propose that this is due to the higher disk mass and the binary nature of the system. Daily changes in the accretion luminosity and extinction can explain the observed photometric variability.

Accretion process, magnetic fields, and apsidal motion in the pre-main sequence binary DQ Tau

Summary: The study aims to investigate the accretion and magnetic field of the tight eccentric binary system DQ Tau composed of two equal-mass CTTSs. The magnetic field topology and strengths in this system are compatible with the accretion processes on CTTSs. Both components of the system are found to be accreting, with a change of the main accretor during the orbital motion. Additionally, the system exhibits a strong enhancement of the mass accretion rate at periastron and apastron, and the apsidal motion of the orbital ellipse is discovered for the first time in this system.

Long-term Photometric Study of the Pre-main Sequence Star V1180 Cas

Summary: This paper reports the results of optical photometric observations of the pre-main sequence star V1180 Cas. The star shows large amplitude variability, which is interpreted as a combination of accretion-induced and extinction-driven effects. By comparing the photometric data with observations of other low-mass pre-main sequence objects, a better understanding of the properties of these celestial bodies can be obtained.

Pre-main sequence stars in LH 91

Summary: In this study, the accretion properties of low-mass pre-main sequence stars in the LH 91 association within the Large Magellanic Clouds are investigated using optical multiband photometry obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope. The age distribution suggests a period of active star formation ranging from a few million years up to approximately 60 million years, with a gap between 5 million years and 10 million years. The masses of the pre-main sequence candidates range from 0.2 solar masses to 1.0 solar mass, with an average of approximately 0.80 solar mass. The results also show variations in accretion luminosity and mass accretion rate with the age of the stars. Comparison with LH 95 reveals that LH 91 appears to be in a more evolved stage. Additionally, the pre-main sequence candidates are found to be uniformly distributed without any evidence of clumps around more massive stars.

Long-term V(RI)C CCD photometry of pre-main-sequence stars in the association Cepheus OB3

Photometric determination of the mass accretion rates of pre-main-sequence stars

Summary: We studied the young stellar populations in the NGC 299 cluster in the Small Magellanic Cloud using observations obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope in three different bands. We identified pre-main-sequence (PMS) objects still undergoing active accretion and determined their physical stellar parameters. Our findings suggest the existence of two populations of PMS stars with different ages and support the idea that the metallicity and density of the forming environment can affect the star formation process. The spatial distribution of massive stars and PMS objects in the cluster suggests a possible dispersal of the latter due to two-body relaxation.

Measurement of the Angular Momenta of Pre-main-sequence Stars: Early Evolution of Slow and Fast Rotators and Empirical Constraints on Spin-down Torque Mechanisms

Summary: We investigate the angular momentum evolution of young stars in the Orion Complex using TESS full-frame imaging data. Our findings confirm that stars with rotation periods faster than 2 days are mostly binaries and quickly clear their disks. We also observe the gyrochronological horseshoe-shaped relationship between rotation period and T_eff for stars with slower rotation periods, indicating the universal evolution of stellar rotation. By measuring spectroscopic v sin i, we discover a bias in pole-on orientations for the youngest stars, which may explain the observed relationship between stellar mass and age.

Summary: In this study, the close pre-main sequence spectroscopic binary CVSO 104 in Ori OB1 was analyzed, revealing the orbital elements and stellar parameters of the system, as well as a significant infrared excess related to a circumbinary disk. Both components were found to be accreting at a similar level, with excess emission observed in Hα and Hβ possibly connected to accretion structures. The optical companion CVSO 104 B was identified as a background Sun-like star not physically associated with the PMS system.

X-Ray Superflares from Pre-main-sequence Stars: Flare Modeling
