Summary: This study evaluated the antiangiogenic and antioxidant activities of the Middle-Eastern medicinal plant Daphne mucronata subsp. Linearifolia. The research found that root extracts and isolated compounds from the plant exhibited antiangiogenic effects and strong antioxidant activity. These findings suggest the potential beneficial role of Daphne mucronata in managing oxidative stress-related diseases.

Summary: The study aimed to establish micromorphological standards of Daphne mucronata Royle and Myrtus communis, which showed distinct organoleptic features and anatomical structures. Anatomical study facilitates the detection of adulteration with inferior commercial varieties, exhausted drugs, cheaper natural substances, and chemicals. This can aid in the preparation of taxonomic key for the identification of these species.

Summary: Twelve macrocyclic daphnane diterpenoids, including six new compounds, were isolated from the whole plant of Daphne pedunculata. Their structures were determined using various methods, and their anti-HIV activity was evaluated. The compounds showed significant activity against HIV, providing further insights into the structure-activity relationships of macrocyclic daphnane diterpenoids.

Summary: The pro-neurogenic activity of the petroleum ether soluble and insoluble fractions of the methanol extract of Daphne mucronata stem extract and a pure compound, daphnin, obtained from the more active petroleum ether insoluble fraction, was evaluated on primary cell cultures prepared from the neonatal mice brain cortex and hippocampus. It showed significant proliferation of the cells as assessed by MTT assay.

Summary: Using liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry guided molecular networking, researchers obtained and characterized 12 undescribed guaiane-type sesquiterpenoids, named tanguticatins A-L, 19 known analogs, and a previously undescribed tri-terpene tanguticatin M from Daphne tangutica Maxim. These compounds were evaluated for their inhibitory effects on lipopolysaccharide-induced nitric oxide production in murine microglial BV2 cells, and tanguticatin E and K showed more potent effects than the positive control minocycline.

Summary: Ten coumarin class of compounds, including a new fused coumarinolignoid mucronin-C, were isolated from Daphne mucronata Royle. The structures and antioxidant properties of these compounds were determined through various chemical and spectroscopic methods. Experimental data showed that compounds with smaller ionization potential values exhibited better antioxidant activity.

Summary: Fractionation based on biological activity screening and NMR characteristic signals analysis resulted in the isolation of seventeen diarylpentanoids from the whole plant of Daphne bholua Buch.-Ham. ex D. Don, including nine previously undescribed compounds. Their structures and stereochemistry were determined through comprehensive spectroscopic data, J-based configurational analysis, and quantum chemical calculations. The inhibitory potentials of all isolates against acetylcholinesterase were evaluated both in vitro and in silico.

Summary: We discovered 23 new prenyl-flavonoids and 13 known molecules from Daphne giraldii Nitsche, some of which have significant bioactivity against hepatoma carcinoma. By combining mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance, and computational approaches, we identified a polyprenyl-flavonoid called Daphnegiratriprenylone A with a triprenyl substitution. This new approach of using computational tools for the assignment of natural product structures was found to be reliable compared to conventional techniques. Several compounds showed potent and selective activity against Hep3B cells, and polyprenyl-flavonoids were found to inhibit FGFR1, a potential target for these compounds.
