Summary: This study examined the expression profiles of miRNAs in lipoprotein fractions (VLDL, LDL, and HDL) isolated from the serum through various methods. The results showed stable detection of different miRNAs in each fraction, with VLDL-specific miRNAs detected for the first time. Functional enrichment analysis indicated the potential roles of lipoprotein-carried miRNAs in cardiovascular disease-related mechanisms.

Summary: The study found that oxidized HDL lipids were not significantly associated with lipoprotein subclass lipid concentrations and composition after adjusting for certain factors, while oxidized LDL lipids were associated with multiple markers of lipoprotein subclass lipid concentrations and composition. Additionally, HDL and LDL subclass measures, such as phospholipid and triglyceride composition, were directly associated with oxidized LDL lipids, while cholesterol ester and free cholesterol composition in HDL and LDL were inversely associated. These results suggest that LDL oxidation may play a role in atherogenesis.

Summary: This study investigated the role of lipoprotein functionality as well as particle number and size in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and on-target LDL-C levels. It was found that ACS patients had higher susceptibility to LDL oxidation and lower HDL-antioxidant capacity. They also had lower HDL-C and Apolipoprotein A-I levels compared to non-ACS patients.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of a selected fraction of A. planci on PCSK9 gene expression, LDLR protein level, and LDL-C uptake. The results showed that the selected fraction reduced PCSK9 gene expression, increased LDLR protein level, and promoted LDL-C uptake. These findings suggest that the selected fraction has the potential to lower circulating LDL-C levels and may be a promising therapeutic intervention for preventing the progression of atherosclerosis.

Summary: High levels of LDL cholesterol and low levels of HDL cholesterol increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. Mice that lack certain genes involved in LDL clearance or HDL functionality are used as models for studying atherosclerosis. This study compared the development of atherosclerosis in different knockout mouse models and found that mice lacking the HDL receptor had similar plaque sizes and compositions in their aortic sinuses but more extensive atherosclerosis in their descending aortas and coronary arteries. These findings suggest that factors other than hypercholesterolemia, such as inflammation and immune system dysregulation, contribute to atherosclerosis in these mice.

Summary: This study explores the association between serum PFAS concentrations and lipoprotein subclasses. After adjusting for confounders, the adjusted models found positive associations between several PFASs and cholesterol concentrations in large to medium sized HDL and medium sized LDL particles. Significant associations were observed between certain PFASs and cholesterol in large to medium LDL particle sizes among women. The study also found that most PFASs tended to be associated with a reduction in VLDL particle number and VLDL triglyceride.
