Summary: The presence of carotid artery atherosclerosis is a promising marker for risk stratification, with recent evidence suggesting it affects cognitive function. Non-invasive ultrasound can easily visualize it, potentially enabling early management to preserve cognitive function. As the population ages, there is a need to identify individuals at risk.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate atherosclerotic lesions in carotid vessels in patients with Metabolic syndrome (MetS) depending on the presence of DMt2 and to assess which demographic factors affect the level of Intima-media thickness (IMT). The study found that patients with DMt2 had the highest measurement of IMT compared with other groups. The ultrasound assessment of carotid IMT should be used more often in the diagnosis and monitoring of high cardiovascular risk and early progression of atherosclerosis, especially in patients with MetS with current DMt2.

Summary: The study found that Apelin-13, Apelin-36, NO, and ELA levels were significantly higher in pregnant women with GDM compared to controls, while glucose and triglyceride levels also increased, and ELA levels decreased. These chemicals may trigger GDM pathology by inducing each other.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of estrogen on atherosclerosis in women, finding that reduced expression of the ER beta gene is associated with increased IMT. Other factors such as glucose level, vitamin D, and age were also found to be independent factors in IMT variance.

Summary: Technological advances in ultrasound imaging have significantly improved image quality and resolution, but limitations exist in using carotid IMT measurements in clinical medicine due to historical data and instrument settings. However, standardized instrumentation, presets, image acquisition, and measurements can still make carotid IMT measurements a valuable research tool. Consensus in technical aspects of ultrasound imaging acquisition, processing, and display for blood vessels could lead to more reliable measurements.

Summary: This study investigated the association between previous gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and incident psychiatric morbidity, and explored the role of subsequent diabetes development in psychiatric morbidity risk. The findings indicated that GDM was associated with an increased risk of depression and anxiety disorders, and subsequent diabetes played a significant role in future psychiatric morbidity risk.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the increase of 2-AA-LPC in carotid plaques from T2DM and control patients and explore its association with plaque vulnerability and biomarkers altered during diabetes. The results showed that 2-AA-LPC was significantly enriched in plaques from diabetic patients and correlated with inflammatory markers within the plaques. This highlights the involvement of local inflammation, arachidonic acid metabolism, and diabetes in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.

Summary: A population-based cross-sectional study examined the relative contribution of previous gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and current type 2 diabetes (T2D) to liver fibrosis risk. The findings suggest that women with previous GDM history who do not progress to overt T2D may not experience poor hepatic outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to identify risk factors and biomarkers of subclinical carotid atherosclerosis (CA) and carotid artery stenosis (CAS) in individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Carotid ultrasonography and evaluation of various clinical parameters were conducted on 389 patients. The results showed that age, sex, glycemic control, complications, and comorbidities were associated with subclinical CA, while factors such as blood pressure, insulin dosage, and kidney function were associated with CAS.

Summary: This study investigated the incidence and severity of cardiovascular and metabolic morbidity in women with previous gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in a Danish population. The findings showed that women with previous GDM had a significantly higher risk of cardiovascular and metabolic morbidity, particularly incident dyslipidemia. The risk estimates were exacerbated by proxies of impaired beta cell function, such as insulin treatment during pregnancy and subsequent development of manifest diabetes. The severity of morbidity was significantly worse if GDM preceded cardiovascular and metabolic morbidity.

The guide includes 174 elements to be considered before, after the exam order, and examination. The steps to be considered before the exam have a greater impact on the validity and reliability, with a focus on validity in 67.24% of the questions. This resource aims to be helpful for teams with a development goal, candidates taking the exam, and examiners.

Summary: This study compares the outcomes of parathyroidectomies guided by intra-operative parathyroid hormone (IOPTH) sampling or frozen section (FS) analysis. The results suggest that IOPTH sampling, when performed by experienced surgeons with appropriate preoperative screening, is a safe and effective method for parathyroid surgery. The success of parathyroid surgery is attributed to correct indication, accurate localization, and experienced surgeons.

Summary: This retrospective study compared the diagnostic accuracies of three-dimensional ultrasonography (3D-US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for identifying Mullerian duct anomalies (MDAs). The study found a high level of agreement between 3D-US and MRI, with concordance rates of 96.3% and 88.9% based on ESHRE-ESGE and ASRM classifications, respectively. The results suggest that 3D-US can be a valuable tool for diagnosing MDAs in conjunction with MRI, which can help improve reproductive outcomes and avoid unnecessary surgical interventions. Further research is needed to standardize radiological images for accurately identifying and classifying MDAs.
