Summary: The study found that preeclampsia can affect the body mass index and the incidence of obesity in offspring, even in cases where offspring were born with low birth weight. This may help explain the occurrence of various cardiovascular and metabolic complications in offspring affected by preeclampsia.

Summary: Individuals with metabolic health issues are at greater risk of ischemic stroke, with hypertension being the most significant metabolic risk factor. Those who are metabolically healthy but overweight or obese have a similar risk of ischemic stroke as those with normal weight.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the association between various physiological factors and pyelonephritis in parous women. The findings suggest that low body mass index (BMI) and body height are associated with uncomplicated pyelonephritis. Parity and certain sociodemographic characteristics were also independently associated with pyelonephritis.

Summary: The study found that body composition-related indicators were independently associated with the onset of GDM in pregnant women with both pre-pregnancy BMI < 24 kg/m² and BMI >= 24 kg/m² groups. Factors such as body fat mass, visceral fat level, and waist-hip ratio showed higher correlation with pre-pregnancy BMI. Total body water, protein levels, mineral levels, bone mineral content, soft lean mass, fat-free mass, skeletal muscle mass, and basal metabolic rate were found to be protective factors for GDM after adjusting for some confounders. The waist-hip ratio was found to be up to 4.562 times the risk of GDM development in all pregnant women, and gestational weight gain was the best predictor for GDM.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the effect of the interaction between abnormal BMI and hypertension on the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Uyghur residents. The results showed that abnormal BMI and hypertension had a synergistic effect on the risk of T2DM, but there was no multiplicative interaction between the two.

Summary: This study demonstrates that waist-corrected body mass index (wBMI), combining BMI and waist circumference measurements, is superior in predicting obesity and diabetes mellitus (DM). The study found a significant association between wBMI and the incidence of DM, with wBMI being a more reliable predictor compared to waist circumference, BMI, and waist-to-height ratio.

Summary: The study examined the relationship between overweight and obesity in young adulthood and incident diabetes later in life, finding that elevated BMI and waist circumference during young adulthood were independently associated with later-life incident diabetes. Insulin resistance was identified as a key mediator in this association, with other factors such as high-density lipoproteins and triglycerides playing a smaller role.

Summary: This study found a significant association between early pregnancy obesity and postpartum hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes risk. Adverse pregnancy outcomes were related to increased incidence of postpartum hypertension and hyperlipidemia. However, these adverse pregnancy outcomes only partially mediated the association between early pregnancy obesity and postpartum hypertension.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the association between the TyG index and modified TyG indices with new-onset hypertension and their predictive ability, stratified by sex. The results showed that TyG and TyG-body mass index were significantly associated with new-onset hypertension only in women, while TyG-waist circumference and TyG-waist-to-height ratio were significantly associated with new-onset hypertension in both men and women. Therefore, a sex-specific approach is required when using TyG and modified TyG indices to identify individuals at risk of incident hypertension.

Summary: This comprehensive review of human adipose tissue fails to mention the role of the endocannabinoid system in fat metabolism. The endogenous cannabinoids and their receptors, found in both white and brown fat, have been recognized as key players in adipose tissue metabolism. Rimonabant, an inverse agonist of cannabinoid receptor type 1, has shown promising effects as a therapeutic target for obesity, dyslipidemia, and insulin resistance, although its clinical use was discontinued due to neuropsychiatric side effects.

Summary: This study compared the prevalence of pediatric obesity during the COVID-19 lockdown with the annual increases in obesity in NHANES. The changes in prevalence observed in two surveys during the lockdown were 28 to 63 times greater than the annual changes in obesity in NHANES. Increases in obesity were greater in Black and Hispanic youth than in White youth. The COVID-19 lockdown exacerbated the disparities in obesity among this age group.
