Summary: This systematic review examined the influence of implant-supported fixed complete dentures, implant-supported overdentures, and removable complete dentures on speech articulation disorders in individuals with at least one completely edentulous jaw. The study included eight clinical trials and found that distortions of the /s/ phoneme were more common with the use of maxillary fixed complete dentures. However, the evidence quality for speech articulation disorders was low, indicating a need for further research.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the influence of bilateral balanced occlusion and lingualized occlusion on the masticatory function of complete denture wearers, as well as compare the masticatory efficiency of single implant-retained mandibular overdenture wearers with those wearing bimaxillary complete dentures. The results showed that the occlusal scheme did not significantly affect the masticatory efficiency for both conventional complete dentures and overdentures, but there was a statistically significant difference in masticatory efficiency between the two types of prostheses, with overdentures performing better. In conclusion, a single mandibular implant can improve the masticatory efficiency of complete denture wearers, regardless of the occlusal scheme.

Summary: This study investigated the difference in improvement of oral health-related quality of life (OHR-QoL) depending on the oral and denture conditions of a complete denture wearer when using cream or powder type denture adhesive. The results showed that the use of denture adhesives could improve OHR-QoL for complete denture wearers, with cream-type adhesives potentially leading to greater improvement in patients with poor residual ridge conditions.

Summary: The study aimed to identify subjective and objective measures reflecting the masticatory ability of CD wearers and investigate associated factors. CD retention and stability impact both subjective and objective masticatory ability. Objective masticatory performance is the best measure followed by oral impact on eating and eating satisfaction.

Summary: The purpose of this clinical study was to evaluate the incidence, virulence, and morphology of Candida spp. isolated from biofilms of complete denture wearers with DRS, with and without an HIV diagnosis. The study also aimed to assess the interaction of the systemic condition with the ability of Candida spp. to colonize.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to explore the factors related to oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in elderly patients who underwent prosthetic treatment with removable dentures. The study found that the number of occlusal supports, number of remaining teeth, maximal occlusal force, and masticatory ability were significantly correlated with the OHRQoL summary score.

Summary: This study assessed the treatment expectations of complete denture users and found that existing denture wearers were highly satisfied with retention, esthetics, and phonetics, while new denture wearers were highly satisfied with mastication. These results are important for clinicians to plan treatments more effectively.

Summary: The study found marked differences in the assessment of CRDP appearances between dental professionals and older CRDP wearers, with varying preferences for CRDPs manufactured with different techniques. The shared and informed approach to decision-making concerning CRDP appearance may enhance denture acceptance and treatment success.

Summary: This study applied a sequential approach to integrate scientific evidence, patient and professional experience, to develop interventions to support better eating with dentures. The interventions included a patient leaflet, web-based interventions, patient support blogs, etc. Patients generally received no advice on eating with dentures, and professionals lacked confidence to provide such advice. Face validity with users confirmed the acceptability of the patient leaflet, indicating its potential wide acceptance.

Summary: This randomized clinical trial assessed the impact of soft liners on biting force, pain perception, and oral health-related quality of life in complete denture wearers. The results showed that both acrylic-based and silicone-based soft liners significantly improved the OHRQoL of the patients at one-month and three-month follow-up periods compared to baseline records. There was no difference in maximum biting force between the two groups at one month, but after three months, the silicone-based group had a significantly higher biting force than the acrylic-based group.

Summary: This study describes the distribution and temporal trends of the centenarian population and their hospital admissions in Spain over the past two decades. It found a significant increase in the centenarian population and hospital admissions, with regional and sex-based differences. Women represented a larger proportion of centenarians and hospital admissions. Understanding these trends and differences is crucial for implementing interventions that ensure adequate healthcare for centenarians.
