It has been reported that young children taking beta-blockers may be at risk of hypoglycaemia when fasting. However, hypoglycaemia is not listed as a side effect of beta-blockers in the British National Formulary for Children. We present five patients (out of approximately 570 patients at our institution who were prescribed regular beta-blockers over the same time period) who had severe hypoglycaemic episodes whilst taking beta-blockers for prevention of arrhythmia. We demonstrate how such an episode may be misinterpreted as an arrhythmic event and how this could lead to inappropriate escalation of medical therapy or even implantation of an automatic implantable cardiac defibrillator.

Summary: This study evaluated a novel method for assessing left ventricular torsion in patients after surgical repair of Tetralogy of Fallot (rTOF) as an indicator of systolic dysfunction. The method of equilibrated warping showed good reliability and revealed a high prevalence of torsion loss in rTOF patients. Loss of torsion may be a common finding in these patients and could potentially aid in early detection of heart failure.

Feasibility and safety of quantitative adenosine stress perfusion cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in pediatric heart transplant patients with and without coronary allograft vasculopathy

Summary: Cardiac MRI with quantitative adenosine stress perfusion testing is safe and feasible for estimating myocardial perfusion in pediatric heart transplant patients. Myocardial perfusion reserve did not significantly differ between patients with coronary allograft vasculopathy and comparison patients. This method shows potential and warrants further investigation in a larger cohort.

Summary: This study addresses the challenges posed by the different orientations (length, width, height) in cardiac magnetic resonance images, proposing a novel unsupervised domain adaptation method that achieves stable image transformation between different orientations through attention mechanism and cycle consistency. After training on a dataset of multi-centric patient cohort, the segmentation performance for left ventricle, myocardium, and right ventricle all showed improvement.

Summary: Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging plays a crucial role in the volumetric analysis of the right ventricle (RV) in patients with repaired Tetralogy of Fallot (rTOF). This study utilized a deep learning-based approach to automatically segment the RV blood pool, achieving good performance in segmentation metrics when compared to literature results. The preliminary results suggest that the proposed method could be effective in automating RV segmentation.
