Summary: This study explores the kinematic and dynamic characteristics of Misgurnus anguillicaudatus during turning maneuvers, providing insights into the propulsion mechanism of aquatic organisms and guiding the design of fish-like propulsion devices. The results reveal the formation of vortices and jets, with suction dominating the thrust mechanism. The study also introduces the use of proper orthogonal decomposition for noise filtering and flow field reconstruction.

Summary: Studying the swimming mechanisms of aquatic organisms can provide new insight into submarine propulsion. In this study, the kinematics and hydrodynamic mechanisms of Misgurnus anguillicaudatus during turning maneuvers were explored. The fish relies on periodic body undulations and tail wagging to maintain continuous maneuvering state. The combination of pressure and viscous mechanisms creates vorticity, which generates thrust jets and side jets for propulsion.

Summary: In this study, alkaline protease was used to hydrolyze loach, and different molecular weight hydrolysates were obtained. The <3 kDa fraction showed the strongest antioxidant activity, and six peptides with antioxidant and enzyme inhibition activities were identified. These results provide a basis for the nutritional value and development of healthy loach products.

Summary: In this study, the coexistence of diploids and tetraploids in the cyprinid loach was investigated. The tetraploids showed superior growth performance and delayed ovarian development compared to diploids. At the genetic level, numerous differentially expressed genes were identified between diploids and tetraploids, including candidate genes involved in growth and gonad development regulation. The up-regulation of key candidate genes was particularly prominent in the pituitary and gonad of tetraploids. Overall, this study provides valuable genetic evidence for understanding the growth superiority and delayed gonadal development of tetraploids, as well as insights into the genetic superiority of polyploidy species in other phenotypes.

Summary: A new antimicrobial peptide gene (Ma-Hep) was obtained and found to have antibacterial activity in loaches, providing protection against bacterial infection. Furthermore, feed supplemented with Ma-Hep expressing yeast improved the intestinal flora of loaches and reduced mortality during bacterial infection.

Summary: Misgurnus anguillicaudatus exhibits both sexual size dimorphism and polyploid size dimorphism. This study found that differences in energy metabolism and steroid hormone synthesis levels may play a key role in the growth dimorphisms observed. Fast-growing individuals (tetraploids, females) showed higher energy metabolism levels and lower abilities in steroid hormone synthesis and fatty acid degradation compared to slow-growing individuals (diploids, males). The differential gene expression analysis between different ploidy levels and sexes revealed potential regulatory genes involved in glycolysis, oxidative phosphorylation, steroid hormone biosynthesis, and fatty acid metabolism pathways. This suggests that metabolic differences may contribute to the growth dimorphisms observed in Misgurnus anguillicaudatus.

Summary: The hybrid offspring generated from full diallel crosses between different populations of Misgurnus anguillicaudatus and Paramisgurnus dabryanus showed that the P_M x P_Z hybrid had the highest body weight, with high general combining abilities and specific combining ability, demonstrating over 10% heterosis in specific combinations. This study is the first to use microsatellite-based parentage assignment in hybrid fish, providing a foundation for loach crossbreeding.

Summary: DNA methylation plays a crucial role in regulating the expression patterns of aromatase genes cyp19a1a and cyp19a1b during gametogenesis in Misgurnus anguillicaudatus. Methylation negatively regulates the expression of cyp19a1a in the ovaries, while cyp19a1b expression fluctuates in the brain but maintains high methylation levels. This study highlights the importance of DNA methylation in mediating gonadal development in teleosts.

Summary: This study successfully edited the exogenous GFP and endogenous myostatin genes of loath using the CRISPR/Cas9 system, leading to the cultivation of faster-growing strains with increased muscle fibers and higher lipid accumulation. Disruption of the myostatin gene activated myogenesis and upregulated the expression of lipogenesis-related genes, indicating a specific role for myostatin in the lipogenesis of loath.
