Acute toxicity of boron to the white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei, was tested at ambient salinities of 3.0 and 20.0 parts per thousand using a static renewal method, respectively. The results showed that the mean LC50 values of boron at 24, 48, 72 and 96 h were 552.55, 153.35, 50.14, 25.05 mg/L to the shrimp at 3.0 parts per thousand, and were 598.13, 219.52, 147.80, 80.06 mg/L at 20.0 parts per thousand. The LC50 values of boron to L. vannamei at 3.0 parts per thousand were significantly lower than these to shrimp at 20.0%. at 48, 72 and 96 h exposure, and the statistic P values were 0.013, 0.000 and 0.000, respectively, indicating that L. vannamei at low salinity is more sensitive to the ambient boron toxicity.
