Gas concentration monitoring by photoacoustic spectroscopy is reviewed from the point of view of practical applicability. Major challenges, which stem from the complexity of the measurement method, are thoroughly discussed and the possibility for long-term reliable and automatic measurements is demonstrated.

Fabrication of Submicrometer-Sized Meloxicam Particles Using Femtosecond Laser Ablation in Gas and Liquid Environments

Eszter Nagy, Attila Andrasik, Tamas Smausz, Tibor Ajtai, Fruzsina Kun-Szabo, Judit Kopniczky, Zoltan Bozoki, Piroska Szabo-Revesz, Rita Ambrus, Bela Hopp

Summary: Pulsed laser ablation has been shown to significantly reduce particle size of drugs, improving dissolution rate and bioavailability. This technique was successfully applied to meloxicam, a drug with poor water solubility, yielding promising results in both air and distilled water environments. The formation of nanoaggregates during laser ablation in air, a phenomenon rarely studied before, was also observed.

Production of ibuprofen-magnetite nanocomposites by pulsed laser ablation

Tamas Gera, Tomi Smausz, Tibor Ajtai, Boldizsar Kurilla, Zsolt Homik, Judit Kopniczky, Zoltan Bozoki, Piroska Szabo-Revesz, Rita Ambrus, Bela Hopp

Summary: The study investigated the application of pulsed laser ablation (PLA) for producing magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs)/drug nanocomposites, showing that PLA induced no chemical changes in the pharmaceutical compound and resulted in composite particles with an average size of 100-150 nm. The research demonstrated that PLA offers a simple and chemical-free method for the production of MNPs/drug nanocomposites, with potential applications in future theranostic nanosystems.

Controlled Laboratory Generation of Atmospheric Black Carbon Using Laser Excitation-Based Soot Generator: From Basic Principles to Application Perspectives: A Review

Tibor Ajtai, Attila Kohut, Peter Raffai, Gabor Szabo, Zoltan Bozoki

Summary: This study investigates the use of laser ablation as a technique for generating soot with high elemental carbon content, similar to diesel or atmospheric soot. The characteristics of the generated particles are compared to other commonly used techniques. The results show significant differences in physicochemical features between different combustion soot and soot generated by different excitation mechanisms. However, the laser ablation technique proves to be a useful tool due to its ability to independently adjust the physical characteristics of the generated soot particles.
