Summary: In this study, Tb3+/Eu3+ co-doped xerogels and glass-ceramics containing CaF2 nanocrystals were prepared and characterized, with in situ formation of fluoride crystals verified by XRD and TEM. The study of Tb3+/Eu3+ energy transfer process was conducted through excitation and emission spectra, showing varying ET efficiencies due to different molar ratios and interionic distances. The presence of luminescence bands for both Tb3+ and Eu3+ ions under NUV excitation was observed, indicating their mutual coexistence and the effect of co-doping on fluorescence lifetimes.

Summary: In order to enhance the infrared emission close to 2 μm, the addition of high temperature chemical clarifier sulfate is effective in reducing the hydroxyl content in the glass matrix, leading to significant improvements in emission intensity. The decomposition of sulfate at high temperature releases gas that removes hydroxyl groups, while the structure of the glass remains unchanged.

Summary: Tb3+-Yb3+ co-doped transparent glass ceramics (GCs) containing Y2Ti2O7 crystal phases were synthesized by melt crystallization. The light transmittance of the GCs reached 78% in the visible region, with an average grain size of 278 nm under the optimal heat treatment conditions (720 degrees C/2 h). The up-conversion luminescence intensity of the GCs was significantly enhanced compared to the precursor glass, and this enhancement was attributed to the change in the Y2Ti2O7 crystal lattice caused by Li+ doping. The introduction of Li+ did not alter the crystalline phase, and the resulting transparent GCs could be used for green up-conversion applications.

Summary: Studies have shown that Tb3+/Yb3+ co-doped materials can effectively split one UV or 488 nm photon into two NIR photons at 980 nm, involving Tb3+ and Yb3+ ions. Ag multimers can facilitate an efficient optical sensitizing effect for RE3+ ions, enhancing broadband excitation. This paper focuses on the systematic investigation of the down-conversion process enhanced by Ag nanoaggregates, providing quantitative data for efficient broadband Ag-sensitization of Tb3+/Yb3+ quantum cutting.

Summary: This study reports on the elaboration of translucent ZnGa2O4 ceramics through an innovative process. The researchers used the lixiviation of glass-ceramics to obtain ZnGa2O4 nanocrystals, which were then sintered into bulk ceramics using Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS). Despite the slightly lower transmittance compared to the theoretical value, these results are promising and open up new possibilities for transparent ceramic processing.

Summary: MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 (MAS) glass and transparent glass ceramics co-doped with P2O5/ZrO2/TiO2 were synthesized using conventional melt-quenching technique. The crystallization behavior, glass stability, phase composition, structure, and light transmittance characteristics of the glass ceramics were discussed. Results showed that P2O5 improved the stability of the basic glass and the obtained transparent glass ceramics had a crystallization process involving volume nucleation and one- or two-dimensional growth. Alpha-cordierite was the main crystalline phase in the prepared glass ceramics, and nanocrystals were observed. The distribution maps obtained via energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy showed uniform distribution of major elements in both the glass and crystalline phases. The resulting glass ceramics exhibited a transmittance of >80%, indicating the feasibility of synthesizing transparent cordierite glass ceramics.

Summary: In this study, NaGd2F7:xTb3+ (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4) glass ceramics were successfully synthesized as scintillating material with low toxicity, high stability, and strong X-ray excited luminescence. The structure and morphology of NaGd2F7 glass ceramics were investigated, demonstrating the uniform distribution of NaGd2F7 nanocrystals in the glass matrix. The photoluminescence and X-ray excitation spectra were significantly enhanced after thermal treatment, indicating improved crystallization of NaGd2F7 glass ceramics. The X-ray excited luminescence intensity of the GC2-640 sample reached 143.8% of the commercial BGO. Additionally, the damaged material could be completely repaired through annealing. These findings suggest that Tb-doped transparent NaGd2F7 glass ceramics have the potential to be utilized as X-ray scintillating material.

Summary: In this paper, Tb3+/Eu3+ co-doped P2O5-B2O3-ZnO-CaF2 glasses and glass ceramics were fabricated, and the structure, luminescence, and temperature sensing characteristics were studied. The crystal phase precipitated in the glass was identified as calcium Ca5(PO4)3F. The temperature sensing behavior in the range of 403-753 K was determined based on the fluorescence intensity ratio of the emission bands of Eu3+ and Tb3+. The glass and glass ceramics showed promising sensitivity for optical thermometry.

Summary: NaY2F7:Er3+,Yb3+ glass-ceramics with high transmittance were successfully prepared using a melt-quenching technique and subsequent thermal treatment. The improved crystallinity led to significantly higher up-conversion emission intensity compared to the precursor glass. The Er3+ ions showed excellent optical thermometry performance with high sensitivity and temperature resolution for self-calibration temperature measurement.

Summary: A new type of Tb3+-doped luminescent glass-ceramics was prepared with yellow phosphorus slag, and the effects of BaF2 and CaF2 on crystallization and luminescence performance were explored. Results showed that BaF2 and CaF2 both promoted crystallization to some extent, but had different effects on Tb3+ ion luminescence.
