Summary: This study presents a comprehensive investigation on the interplay between nitrogen and various defects in ZnO nanorods, revealing that nitrogen implantation induces structural damages and forms nitrogen-related defect complexes. Post-implantation annealing in O2 and Ar environments plays a key role in stabilizing nitrogen dopants in ZnO nanorods.

Summary: Micro-alloyed Mg-0.4 wt.% La alloy is recommended as an anode material for Mg-air batteries. The extruded Mg-La anode exhibits lower hydrogen release and reduced chunk effect compared to the as-cast anode, resulting in enhanced anodic efficiency and discharge performance. Moreover, the alloy enables higher voltage and energy density in Mg-air cells.

Summary: A novel method was developed to fabricate a protective superhydrophobic LDH film on a Zn-Al alloyed surface of AZ31 Mg alloy. The film provided corrosion and mechanical protection for the substrate magnesium alloy, while additional modification allowed for changing the surface properties to super-hydrophobicity. Experimentally verified long-term anti-corrosion performance, super-hydrophobicity, wear resistance, chemical stability, and adhesion strength of the modified LDH film.

Summary: The role of alloyed Sc on the corrosion behavior of Mg was investigated using experimental measurements and DFT calculations. It was found that after T4 solution treatment, the Mg-Sc alloy showed higher corrosion resistance compared to high pure Mg. This improvement was attributed to the formation of scandium oxide-rich surface layers, which acted protectively against anodic dissolution, and the inhibition of cathodic hydrogen evolution by the addition of Sc.

Summary: By introducing a narrow bandgap acceptor N3 into polymer solar cells, the performance of PSCs can be significantly improved in terms of photon harvesting and fill factor. The ternary strategy using two Y6-series derivatives as alloyed acceptors shows great potential in enhancing the efficiency of PSCs.

Summary: The effect of Al on microstructure and corrosion behavior of cast Mg-2Zn-xAl-0.5Ca (x = 0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 wt%) alloys is investigated. The addition of 0.5 wt% Al leads to the lowest corrosion rate of 4 mm/y. This is attributed to the decreased cathodic activity of Ca2Mg6Zn3 phase due to Al doping and the refined intermetallics resulting from Al alloying, which reduce pitting corrosion. Additionally, the finer grains enhance the barrier effect at grain boundaries, effectively confining corrosion propagation. The formation of Al2O3 reinforces the surface film. The optimum Al content is determined to be 0.5-1.0%, which provides the alloy with admirable corrosion resistance and high ultimate tensile strength.

Summary: By introducing Ca element, a microstructure consisting of fine recrystallized grains, low angle boundaries, and nano-sized CaMgSn particles has been achieved in a low-alloyed Mg-1.1Al-1.1Zn-0.2Sn-0.3Ca alloy. The addition of Ca inhibits recrystallization and grain growth during rolling and annealing. The annealed alloy exhibits high strength-ductility synergy, with a yield strength of -249 +/- 3 MPa, an ultimate strength of -308 +/- 4 MPa, and a total elongation of -14 +/- 1.1%.

Summary: Compared to pure Mg, lean alloyed Mg-Al-Ca alloys exhibit weakened basal-type texture intensities and increased room-temperature ductility. In this study, the combined effects of Al and Ca on texture evolution were investigated by subjecting two binary and seven ternary Mg-Al-Ca alloys to cold rolling, with texture measurement after each rolling step. The results showed that the addition of Ca weakens the basal-type texture of Mg, while the addition of Al strengthens it compared to the samples containing Ca. The joint effect of Al and Ca can lead to a steady-state basal texture intensity for specific alloy compositions. The solubility limit of Ca in Mg is expected to influence this behavior. Mechanical properties obtained by compression testing exhibited high degrees of deformation, ranging from 15-25%.

Summary: A-axis oriented ZnMgO epitaxial thin films were developed with a strong linear electro-optic effect. The incorporation of Mg into ZnO films not only increases transmittance but also reduces leakage current. Furthermore, the linear electro-optic response is significantly enhanced with the increase in Mg content.

Summary: A novel low-alloyed Mg-1Bi-1Zn-1Ag alloy system with a bimodal grain structure was developed through extrusion at different extrusion ratios. The effects of grain structure on corrosion behavior and tensile properties were analyzed. The sample obtained at the extrusion ratio of 9 (BZQ111-R9) exhibited a bimodal grain microstructure and showed filiform corrosion with intergranular corrosion at a low corrosion rate of 0.06 mm/a. The BZQ111-R9 sample achieved an improved synergy between strength (tensile yield strength of 207.1 MPa) and ductility (elongation of 35.9%). Therefore, this proposed approach can develop low-alloyed Mg-Bi-based alloys with excellent synergy between corrosion resistance and tensile properties based on bimodal grain structure control.

Summary: Carrier (electron) compensation is influenced by the dopant valence in impurity doped ZnO thin films. The conductivity and carrier concentration values decrease as the dopant valence increases, indicating more donor-acceptor compensation. Post-growth annealing in Ar + 10% H-2 + excess Zn ambient activates the dopants more effectively than annealing in only Ar + 10% H-2 ambient. The dark and photo-Hall electrical transport data support the release of electrons from acceptor-like complexes in the doped films.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the effect of minor Ce addition on the microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of rolled Mg-0.6Al-0.5Mn-0.2Ca alloy sheets. The Ce addition leads to changes in phase structure and improves the tensile strength. However, it also results in grain growth and abnormal grain growth.
