Summary: This article reports a rare case of small bowel intussusception and intestinal obstruction caused by hemangioma in an elderly woman, presenting primarily as abdominal distention without nausea and vomiting. Preoperative diagnosis and localization of these lesions are of great importance.

Summary: We presented a case of bowel intussusception caused by ascending colon cancer in a 64-year-old woman. The diagnosis was confirmed through color Doppler ultrasonography and CT imaging. The patient underwent colonoscopy and surgical treatment, and recovered successfully postoperatively.

Summary: This article describes a case of a 17-year-old female with recurrent abdominal pain and discomfort. The patient was diagnosed with intussusception and volvulus through B-scan ultrasonography and contrast-enhanced computed tomography. A laparoscopic procedure identified a cauliflower-shaped polypoid tumor as the cause of the intussusception. Postoperative pathology examination confirmed the tumor as a rare traditional serrated adenoma of the small intestine. The article emphasizes the importance of early surgery for prompt diagnosis and favorable prognosis in cases of unexplained abdominal pain or gastrointestinal bleeding.

Summary: Depression is common among patients with chronic myocardial infarction (CMI). This study suggests that dysbiosis in gut microbial composition may contribute to the onset of CMI-induced depression-like behavior, and that exogenous regulation of gut microbiota composition could be a potential therapeutic strategy for CMI and related depression-like behavior.

Summary: Appendicitis and intussusception are two common abdominal emergencies in children. We present a case where clinical suspicion for intussusception was low, but point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) revealed both intussusception and appendicitis. This case highlights the importance of maintaining a broad differential diagnosis and the potential utility of POCUS in unclear clinical scenarios.

Summary: The study showed that ileocolic intussusception is the most commonly encountered type, while small bowel intussusceptions are mostly transient. Radiological determination of intussusception type and identification of pathological lead points or unusual radiological features are important in avoiding unnecessary interventions and reducing patient morbidity.

Summary: Streptococcus suis is a zoonotic pathogen that affects the pig farming industry globally. This study found that S. suis can cause damage and inflammation in the intestinal tissue after lung infection. It was also discovered that gut microbiota dysbiosis worsens lung injury during the infection. This research provides new theoretical basis for the treatment of related lung diseases.

Summary: The fetal and early postnatal stages are crucial periods for brain development, but exposure to methylmercury (MeHg) during this time can lead to long-lasting cognitive impairments. This study investigated the neurotoxic mechanism of MeHg in disrupting neurotransmitter metabolism and found that MeHg significantly altered neurotransmitter profiles and the gut microbiota in offspring rats. The findings indicate a potential regulatory role of the gut microbiota in MeHg-induced disruptions and suggest the impact of perinatal MeHg exposure on gut-brain communication.

Summary: The cellular effects of Pb nanoparticles varied among different cell types, primarily by inducing interleukin-8 expression and heme oxygenase-1 gene expression. Pb nanoparticles induced a stronger cellular response compared to Pb nitrate, primarily through cytokine production and in a cell type-dependent manner.

Summary: This study investigates the hepatotoxicity of methylparaben (MeP) in adult zebrafish exposed to environmentally realistic concentrations of MeP. The results show that MeP exposure induces hepatocellular vacuolization in zebrafish and disrupts the balance between oxidative stress and antioxidant capacity. MeP exposure also dysregulates lipid metabolism and alters the concentrations of key metabolites. Overall, this study highlights the hepatotoxic effects of MeP even at environmentally realistic concentrations.

Summary: Intussusception involves telescoping of one part of the intestine into another, which is more common in children but can occur in adults due to intestinal masses. These masses can be malignant or benign, such as lipomas. Lipomas typically appear in the trunk, neck, or forearm but can also be found in the gastrointestinal tract, causing symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and bleeding.

Summary: This review examines the current research on the microorganisms present in the gut microbiota that can influence the development of CRC, as well as possible treatment options to prevent the initiation and spread of the disease. Despite promising alternatives, further improvement and development are needed for new therapeutic approaches targeting the microorganisms that cause CRC.

Summary: This article reports a 20-year-old female patient with a family history of Peutz-Jeghers syndrome who presented to the hospital multiple times with abdominal pain. She underwent two small bowel resection surgeries and tumor resections. Follow-up is crucial for patients with Peutz-Jeghers to prevent complications and carcinomatous changes.

Summary: Intestinal lipoma is a rare benign tumor, mainly occurring in patients aged 50 to 70 years. There are few reports of colonic lipoma in children. This case describes a 7-year-old girl with colonic lipoma causing intussusception, confirmed by ultrasound examination and histopathological examination.

Summary: The extensive use of dishwasher detergents, particularly rinse aid, has been found to be associated with increased prevalence of chronic inflammatory diseases linked to gut epithelial barrier leakiness. The toxicity of rinse aid disrupts the epithelial barrier and alters gene expression related to cell survival, barrier function, cytokine signaling, and metabolism in gastrointestinal epithelial cells.
