A Gram-negative, aerobic, non-motile, and rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain DS48-5-3(T), was isolated from a 48 m sediment sample taken from Daechung Reservoir, Republic of Korea. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence studies showed a clear affiliation of this strain to the Bacteroidetes, notably most closely related to Ferruginibacter alkalilentus HU1-GD23(T), Ferruginibacter lapsinanis HU1-HG42(T) and Ferruginibacter yonginensis HME8442(T), showing 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities to the type strains of these species of 95.2-96.4 % similarity. The predominant ubiquinone was identified as MK-7. The major fatty acids were identified as iso-C-15:0, iso-C-17:0 3-OH, and iso-C-15:1 G. The G+C content of the genomic DNA of strain DS48-5-3(T) was determined to be 37.2 %. On the basis of polyphasic evidence, it is proposed that strain DS48-5-3(T) should belong to a novel species, for which the name Ferruginibacter profundus sp. nov. (type strain DS48-5-3(T) = KCTC 32478(T) = JCM 19431(T)), is proposed.

Effective control of harmful Microcystis blooms by paucibactin A, a novel macrocyclic tambjamine, isolated from Paucibacter aquatile DH15

Ve Van Le, So-Ra Ko, Mingyeong Kang, Hee-Mock Oh, Chi-Yong Ahn

Summary: Global warming and eutrophication have accelerated Microcystis blooms, deteriorating water quality. Cyanocides produced by cyanobactericidal bacteria have shown potential for controlling Microcystis blooms due to their environmental friendliness. In this study, a novel macrocyclic tambjamine called paucibactin A was isolated and found to have cyanocidal activity against Microcystis, selectively targeting it and Dolichospermum in microcosm studies.

Impacts of Biogas Slurry Fertilization on Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungal Communities in the Rhizospheric Soil of Poplar Plantations

Xing-Ye Yu, Bao-Teng Wang, Long Jin, Hong-Hua Ruan, Hyung-Gwan Lee, Feng-Jie Jin

Summary: This study investigated the effects of biogas slurry (BS) fertilization at different concentrations on arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) community structures in poplar plantation rhizospheric soil. The results showed that different fertilization concentrations significantly influenced the diversity of AMF, with the high BS concentration treatment exhibiting the highest AMF diversity and richness. The addition of BS also increased the relative abundance of the dominant genera, Glomus and Paraglomus. Overall, adding BS fertilizer to poplar plantations can enhance the diversity of AMF communities and the relative abundance of critical genera that affect plant nutrient uptake.
