Summary: This study found that hormonal osteonecrosis of the femur, extent of necrosis, type C1 and type C2 in the Japanese Society for the Study of Femoral Osteonecrosis staging, and distance of the tip of the tantalum rod from the center of necrosis are risk factors for postoperative FHC in patients with Ficat I, II, and III stages of ANFH.

Summary: The study evaluated the survival rate of porous tantalum rod implantation in the treatment of osteonecrosis of the femoral head, and found that ARCO stage, age, and bone marrow edema were independent risk factors for the failure of conversion to THA.

Summary: Endoscopic examination was conducted to observe necrotic findings of the femoral head during decompression procedures for osteonecrosis. The efficacy of bone marrow injection was 93.88%, and the efficacy of vascularized bone graft was 94.44%, based on the endoscopic findings. Additional treatments based on endoscopic findings can improve the treatment efficacy of osteonecrosis of the femoral head.

Summary: This study aims to compare the effects of core decompression (CD) and bone grafting (BG) on osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) and to evaluate the efficacy of CD based on cell therapy. PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library were searched for relevant studies between 2012 and 2022. The findings suggest that CD combined with cell therapy shows promising results, with BMAC and BMMC in specific doses likely to achieve better outcomes.

Summary: In this study, a rabbit model was established to mimic human osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) and evaluate the autologous MSC-based treatment. Results showed that implantation of autologous BM-MSCs could restore the damaged tissue in rabbit femurs. Furthermore, the study found that osteonecrosis did not affect the behavior of MSCs.

Summary: This study identified 13 differentially abundant miRNAs in the urine of patients with idiopathic osteonecrosis of femoral head (ONFH), indicating their diagnostic and prognostic value as biomarkers for ONFH. The noninvasive nature of urinary miRNAs testing makes it potentially useful for the diagnosis and monitoring of ONFH progression.

Summary: This study aimed to establish a new mouse model of osteonecrosis using angiotensin II combined with asparaginase and dexamethasone, and to study the effects of this drug combination on femoral head osteonecrosis in mice. The results showed that this drug combination can significantly promote necrosis of the femoral head and disrupt the local blood supply.

Summary: A fully automatic deep learning model was developed in this study to detect early-stage ONFH lesions on MRI, showing promising diagnostic performance. The model's AUC was 0.97 with high sensitivity and specificity, and it exhibited good correlation with the ground truth definition. More extensive multicenter studies are needed to further validate and refine the model.

Summary: This study found that the decreased expression of Ankyrin in bone marrow stem cells (BMSCs) from patients with osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is associated with aberrant eNOS signaling, reduced cell proliferation, and osteogenic differentiation potential.

Summary: This study revealed that cellular senescence is a major cause of imbalanced differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and the progression of steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (SONFH). MiR-601 and SIRT1 were identified to play important roles in BMSCs senescence, and metformin was shown to alleviate BMSCs senescence and SONFH progression. These findings provide a new perspective for the prevention and treatment of SONFH.

Summary: This study aimed to provide a long-term survival analysis of ONFH in patients with SLE who underwent conventional core decompression (CD) treatment. The results showed that CD may not be effective in preventing the progression of pre-collapse ONFH to end-stage osteoarthritis requiring arthroplasty in patients with SLE.

Summary: The study indicates the important role of SIRT3 in glucocorticoid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head. Resveratrol can reduce oxidative stress and mitochondrial damage by activating SIRT3, and promote osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs through the AMPK/PGC-1 alpha/SIRT3 axis. Resveratrol administration can prevent GIONFH, enhance SIRT3 expression, and reduce oxidative levels in affected rats.
