Summary: This study assessed the efficacy and safety of oral semaglutide in overweight or obese adults without type 2 diabetes. The findings showed that oral semaglutide 50 mg once per day led to a significantly greater reduction in bodyweight compared to placebo. Gastrointestinal adverse events were the most common side effects. Oral semaglutide could be an effective option for weight management.

Summary: The study found that the 5:2 diet and standard multicomponent weight management advice yielded similar weight loss results, with the 5:2 diet not undermining other health behaviors and receiving more positive ratings. Additionally, adding initial group support enhanced adherence and effects of the 5:2 diet.

Summary: This study suggests that Obex(R) may be helpful in reducing body weight and fat. Through a randomized double-blind clinical trial, researchers found that Obex(R) combined with non-pharmacological treatment significantly improved weight, waist circumference, and insulin metabolism in overweight and obese patients. Compared to the placebo group, the Obex(R) group had higher levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol.

Summary: This study aimed to identify patient-centered domains with long-term relevance to people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Semi-structured individual cognitive interviews were conducted with RA patients from five different countries. Six main themes were identified, including living with symptoms and functional limitations, lack of participation, partner and family issues, risk of damage to vital organs, coping strategies, and healthcare concerns. These domains are seldom measured in longitudinal registries and should be considered in patient-centered longitudinal studies.

Summary: The objective of the study was to compare the effects of cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) to usual care on sleep efficiency. The study found that CBT-I did not significantly improve sleep efficiency measured by polysomnography (PSG). However, CBT-I showed significant improvement in patient-reported sleep and RA-related outcomes.

Summary: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of the New Nordic Renal Diet (NNRD) on metabolic acidosis and uremic toxins in patients with moderate CKD. The results showed that one week of NNRD effectively improved metabolic acidosis and reduced urinary excretion of uric acid and uremic toxins. These results provide encouragement for further investigations on the long-term renal protection effects of NNRD in patients with CKD.

Summary: This study aimed to identify contextual factors that modify the treatment effect of the GLAD exercise and education programme compared to open-label placebo on knee pain in individuals with knee OA. The results suggest that patients who take analgesics or report constant knee pain seem to benefit more from the GLAD programme compared to OLP in terms of knee pain.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate whether disease activity-guided tapering of biologics enables a significant dose reduction while maintaining equivalent disease activity. The results showed that disease activity-guided tapering of biologics allowed one-third of the patients to achieve a reduction of 50% or more, while disease activity remained equivalent between the tapering and control groups. Although flare rates were higher in the tapering group, they could be managed with rescue therapy.

Summary: This study evaluated the prevalence of survey-based fibromyalgia (FM) criteria among newly referred patients in a rheumatic outpatient clinic, and compared the use of healthcare services between survey-based FM and non-FM cases. The study found that FM cases were more likely to be women and received more medications and public economic support. FM cases also had a higher number of hospital courses and had undergone more invasive procedures compared to non-FM cases. Consultations with various specialists were also more frequent for FM cases.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate predictors for successful biologic tapering among patients with inflammatory arthritis. The results showed that the tapering group was the only significant independent predictor for successful tapering, while SF-36 MCS may also be of importance. The study concluded that successful tapering is achievable for patients who are interested in reducing their biological therapy, and no other significant predictors were identified.

Summary: A randomized clinical trial showed that adding exercise to diet-induced weight loss can improve beta-cell function in people with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes. Summary: The study found that Mind My Mind (MMM) cognitive behavioral therapy is effective in treating common emotional and behavioral mental health problems in youth, but not all individuals respond satisfactorily to treatment. The analysis revealed that youths with any mental disorder at baseline, comorbidity, and longer duration of untreated mental health problems showed superior treatment benefits. This highlights the importance of community-based programs like MMM for youth with substantial mental health problems.
