Summary: This study aimed to establish normative reference values of body composition for the Vietnamese population, with findings showing that women had more body fat while men had higher lean mass and bone mineral content. These reference values provide a valuable resource for interpreting body composition data for health professionals and the public.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate body composition and its relationship with hormonal control in acromegaly, comparing the effectiveness of Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) with dual X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), which is commonly used in current studies. The results show that there were no significant differences in body composition between patients with controlled and active disease. In patients with adequate hormonal control, there was preservation of muscle mass and a lower prevalence of metabolic comorbidities, such as type 2 diabetes (T2D) and high blood pressure (HBP).

Summary: The study shows that the evaluation of body composition and physical fitness in young soccer players should be based on maturity stage rather than chronological age. The inclusion of percentiles to control for maturity stage during puberty could contribute to better retention and selection of young soccer players, increasing their chances of achieving sporting success.

Summary: The study demonstrated that total body tissue mass, fat mass percentage, fat mass, lean mass, and bone mineral content measurements obtained by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry are highly reproducible in patients with RA and AS. The reproducibility in healthy subjects did not differ significantly from that in patients with RA and AS.

Summary: This study aimed to determine cutoff values for different appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (ASMI) methods measured by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) in a reference group of the Turkish population. The results showed that ASM/BMI was found to be the most suitable ASM adjustment method to predict muscle strength.

Summary: This study aims to establish age- and sex-specific reference values for fat mass index (FMI), lean mass index (LMI), appendicular LMI (aLMI), and body fat distribution indices in multi-ethnic Singaporean adults. The study found significant correlations between these parameters and age, making the reference data valuable in clinics for geriatric, obesity, and oncology patients. This study also contributes to the limited reference database on Southeast Asian body composition.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the sex differences in the association between DXA-measured body composition and phenotypes with periodontitis. The study found that women with higher BMI, higher body fat mass, and the high adiposity-low muscle phenotype were more likely to develop periodontitis, while no significant associations were found in men.

Summary: This study examines the impact of pre-fracture functional status on functional decline and mortality after hip fracture, as well as possible sex differences. The findings suggest that older men may have a worse functional prognosis than women after a hip fracture, especially when they have a high pre-fracture functional performance.

Summary: This real-world analysis examined the clinical and economic impact of non-dialysis-dependent CKD patients with and without secondary hyperparathyroidism (sHPT) in Italy. The study found that CKD patients with sHPT had a higher incidence of progression to dialysis and cumulative mortality, as well as significantly higher healthcare costs compared to CKD patients without sHPT. The findings highlight the importance of timely intervention to improve the management of CKD patients affected by sHPT.

Summary: The aim of this study was to characterize lupus-related arthritis and assess the efficacy of belimumab in treating articular manifestations of SLE. The results showed that belimumab treatment significantly improved disease activity in patients without erosions, but had no effect on patients with erosions. Additionally, the presence of ultrasound-detected erosions was associated with a decreased efficacy of belimumab. However, further research is needed to confirm these findings due to the small sample size.

Summary: This study assessed the efficacy of belimumab in treating joint and skin manifestations in a nationwide cohort of SLE patients. The results showed that belimumab significantly improved joint and skin symptoms and reduced the use of glucocorticoids. A significant proportion of patients who did not achieve complete remission initially achieved remission during follow-up.

Summary: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is effectively treated with biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs). A real-life observational study was conducted to compare the retention rates of IL-17 inhibitors and TNF inhibitors in PsA patients. The study found that secukinumab had a trend towards better retention rate compared to TNF inhibitors, especially in patients with axial involvement.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with radiological progression in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients treated with biological DMARDs (bDMARDs). The results showed that baseline erosive disease, higher disease activity during treatment, younger age, and monotherapy were independently associated with the development of bone erosions. Additionally, the study team developed a predictive model that accurately forecasted the occurrence of new erosions in patients receiving bDMARDs.
