Summary: This study demonstrates that heme significantly enhances neutrophil adhesion in vitro through increased activation of integrin subunits on the cell surface, partially mediated by an NFκB-dependent pathway and ROS generation. Inhibition of NFκB activity and ROS generation can attenuate heme-induced neutrophil adhesion.

Summary: In this study, we found that integrin-mediated signaling induces the release of ATP, promoting T-cell adhesion and migration across fibronectin. P2X4 receptor plays a key role in T-cell adhesion and migration, while P2X7 and P2Y(11) receptors have no effect. Furthermore, we discovered a positive feedback loop between beta 1 integrin and P2X4 receptor signaling pathways.

Summary: Cortical stimulation is a useful tool for research and treatment of neuro-psychiatric conditions, but the lack of predictive models makes it difficult to control the induced physiological patterns. This study uses a hybrid model to understand how cortical surface stimulation can induce traveling waves through asymmetrical activation of inhibitory interneurons. The results show that asymmetric electrical stimulation can easily facilitate traveling waves by relying on the activation of different types of inhibitory interneurons.

Summary: This study found that LFA-1:ICAM-1 interactions promote the formation of a contractile actomyosin arc network, which plays a dominant role in B-cell immune synapse (IS) formation. This network is created by mDia1, organized into concentric, contractile arcs by myosin 2A, and flows inward at the same rate as B-cell receptor (BCR):antigen clusters. The results demonstrate that integrin is crucial for synapse formation and inhibiting myosin impairs synapse formation and BCR signaling.

Summary: Integrin plays a crucial role in neurite outgrowth by transmitting mechanical and chemical signals. Astragaloside IV (AS-IV), a component of Astragali radix, is associated with integrin expression and has a positive impact on neural protection. This study explored the mechanism by which AS-IV promotes neurite outgrowth, demonstrating that AS-IV increases integrin activity through talin and facilitates intracellular structural force to enhance neurite elongation.

Summary: It has been found that low-intensity green light can relieve pain by activating a neural circuit from the visual cortex to the anterior cingulate cortex. This circuit involves the activation of glutamatergic projections from the secondary visual cortex to GABAergic neurons in the anterior cingulate cortex, resulting in the inhibition of local glutamatergic neurons and subsequent pain relief.

Summary: This study highlights the role of GDF15 in promoting Treg cell expansion and enhancing their suppressive function in HCC, with CD48 identified as a receptor for GDF15 in the immune system. Inhibiting GDF15 shows promising results in reversing HCC-related immunosuppression. The findings suggest a potential new target for immunotherapy in HCC.

Summary: In response to glucose starvation, ULK1 activation by AMPK phosphorylates PIKfyve on S1548, leading to increased synthesis of the phospholipid PI(5)P and formation of PI(5)P-containing autophagosomes. This ULK1-mediated process enhances autophagy flux and reduces autophagy substrate levels.

Summary: The study identified a subgroup of human polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) expressing CCR5, named CCR5(+) PMNs, which exhibit pro-inflammatory properties and induce neutrophil extracellular traps formation. The number of CCR5(+) PMNs is increased in the peripheral blood and inflamed tissue of ulcerative colitis patients, and higher frequencies of these cells are associated with failure of anti-TNF therapy. These findings suggest that CCR5(+) PMNs may play a role in tissue damage during chronic inflammation and could potentially serve as a diagnostic marker.

Summary: This study reveals the role of protein deacetylase SIRT2 in Golgi stress induced by bacterial infection. Shigella secrete effector protein IcsB, which transfers fatty acyl groups to modify host proteins to evade immune surveillance. Upregulated SIRT2 counteracts this function by removing the fatty acyl groups and enhancing the killing of Shigella.

Summary: Ferroptosis is a recently identified form of regulated cell death characterized by iron-dependent lipid ROS accumulation. This study reveals the mechanism of ferroptosis in gliomas and identifies Hsp90 and Drp1 as regulators of Acsl4 expression in ferroptosis. The promotion of the Hsp90-Acsl4 pathway enhances the anticancer activity of erastin, providing a new approach to ferroptosis-mediated glioma therapy.
