Summary: Elderly patients with GBM receive less radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and surgical resection, and advancing age and poorer performance status are associated with worsened survival outcomes. Gross total resection provides the greatest survival benefit, while chemotherapy and radiotherapy also improve survival rates. Advanced treatment strategies may improve survival in elderly patients with GBM, but should be weighed against patient-specific factors and quality-of-life concerns.

Summary: Management of elderly patients with GBM is controversial. The study found that conventional radiotherapy and completion of adjuvant chemotherapy were associated with better overall survival (OS), while early start of adjuvant treatment and completion of adjuvant chemotherapy were associated with better progression-free survival (PFS).

Summary: The aim of this study was to identify the trajectory patterns of supportive care needs in Chinese older patients with breast cancer and their predictive factors. A total of 122 older patients with breast cancer were recruited and their demographic, disease-related information, type D personality, and supportive care needs were investigated at baseline, 3, and 6 months. Three trajectories with different characteristics of changing categories of supportive care needs were identified, and primary caregiver type, treatment protocols, and personality traits were found to be influential factors in the trajectory of supportive care needs.

Summary: The study reviewed elderly patients with GBM referred for 6-week CRT, finding that CRT treatment was feasible for this population, even in the case of post-operative neurological disabilities. Age and neurological disabilities did not necessarily affect patient outcomes.

Summary: This article explores key issues at the intersection of geriatric glioblastoma patients, palliative care, and neurosurgery through a narrative literature review. It identifies patient-centeredness, early palliative care, advance care planning, and multi-professionalism as the four key issues. The article highlights the possible benefits and barriers of integrating these concepts into neurosurgery and concludes that palliative care complements neurosurgical care for geriatric glioblastoma patients.

Summary: This study explores the plasma levels of biogenic amines in glioblastoma patients undergoing treatment and develops a predictive tool based on these levels. Surgery and chemoradiation have effects on the levels of biogenic amines, and treatment phases can be accurately classified using machine learning models.

Summary: This study analyzed the optimal management strategies for elderly glioblastoma patients and found that tumor treating field + temozolomide and temozolomide + hyperfractionated radiotherapy are the most recommended treatments for elderly newly diagnosed patients. However, the best treatment for elderly recurrent patients is still unknown. Temozolomide is more effective for methylated glioblastoma patients, but adverse events associated with temozolomide therapy should be considered.

Summary: The overall incidence of glioblastoma in the elderly population remained stable between 2000 and 2017. There was a non-significant increasing tendency for all elderly patients, while specific subgroups showed significantly increasing or decreasing trends in incidence rates. Age had an impact on the incidence trends, but period and cohort effects were not evident. Future research on specific molecular subgroups is needed to further understand the etiology of glioblastoma.

Summary: This study analyzed the patterns of failure in glioblastoma patients receiving novel chemoradiotherapy regimens and found that the patterns were influenced by the timepoint of analysis and appeared to originate from the central region. Addition of specific chemotherapy drugs may also influence the patterns of failure, although it does not impact overall survival.

Summary: The number of elderly patients over the age of 85 being treated in Intensive Care Units (ICU) is increasing, despite doctors' reluctance. However, there are only a few studies that have examined the relevance of treating this group of patients in the ICU. One study focused on patients over the age of 85 and found some prognostic factors for their treatment and outcomes.

Summary: This study examined the diagnostic work-up, treatment, and outcomes of elderly patients with Cancer-of-unknown-primary-origin (CUP) in real-world US clinical practice. The results showed that many patients did not receive complete diagnostic work-up or treatment, and had shorter survival. Further research is needed to improve the diagnostic work-up and treatment effectiveness in patients diagnosed with CUP.

Summary: This paper reviews the clinical and molecular characteristics, current therapeutic options, and prognostic factors of elderly patients with GBM. Elderly people with GBM have a poor prognosis and limited response to treatments, which are correlated with age, clinical frailty, poorer tolerability to surgery or adjuvant radio-chemotherapy, and higher occurrence of comorbidities and/or secondary complications.
