Summary: This study investigated the prevalence and sociodemographic determinants of thinness, overweight, and obesity among Chinese children and adolescents aged 7 to 18 years from 2010 to 2018. The findings showed that the prevalence of thinness decreased while overweight increased during this period. The prevalence of obesity declined in boys but increased in girls, particularly in adolescents aged 16-18 years. Factors such as age, mode of transportation to school, family size, and parental age were found to be associated with thinness, overweight, and obesity.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of breastfeeding during the first four months of life on thinness, overweight, and obesity in children aged three to six years in eastern China. The results showed that breastfeeding was associated with a lower risk of overweight and overweight/obesity, but had no effect on thinness and obesity. Moreover, the effects of breastfeeding may differ in certain subgroups.

Summary: Bile acids are important molecules involved in digestion and also act as key regulators of metabolism and inflammation. Recent studies have shown that bile acids play a crucial role in glucose, lipid, and energy metabolism. The close relationship between bile acids and metabolic disorders suggests their potential as therapeutic targets for metabolic diseases.

Summary: This study examined the prevalence and factors associated with malnutrition among South Asian adolescents aged 12-15, finding that factors such as age, hygiene behaviors, social support, sedentary behavior, and tobacco use were associated with adolescent malnutrition. The study suggests the presence of a double burden of malnutrition in this population and underscores the need for further research to understand these relationships.

Summary: The association between weight status and migraine in the pediatric population was evaluated in this study. The overall certainty of evidence was very low, but studies with better methodological quality reported increased odds of migraine in overweight, obese, and excess weight individuals. Future longitudinal studies are needed to determine the causal relationship between weight status and migraine in pediatric patients.

Summary: The fourth round of the WHO European Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative was conducted in 36 countries from 2015-2017, showing great geographic variability in height, weight, and BMI among children aged 6-9. While the prevalence of overweight and obesity was higher in Southern Europe, levels of thinness were relatively low except in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Despite efforts to address it, unhealthy weight status remains an important issue in the WHO European Region.

Summary: Childhood overweight and obesity in Indian children and adolescents is a growing epidemic that requires evaluation and identification to prevent long-term complications. Anthropometric assessment and appropriate growth charts are important tools to identify obesity-related risks. Comorbidities associated with childhood obesity should be screened and managed to prevent long-term cardiometabolic risks.
