Transplanted organs may act as a route of transmission of infectious diseases, such as Chagas' disease. The aim of this study was to describe the transmission of the Trypanosoma cruzi through a renal transplant and the anatomo-clinical evolution of the patient after treatment with benzonidazole. The patient was a 31-year-old white male from the State of Minas Gerais in Brazil. He had renal failure secondary to diabetes and later received a kidney from a cadaveric donor. The patient was undergoing immunosuppression therapy with azathioprine, cyclosporine A, and prednisone. After the transplant, he developed an acute phase of Chagas' disease and complications from diabetes and died 2 months later. In the autopsy, T cruzi amastigotes were found in the transplanted kidney, heart, bladder, liver, and pancreas. An important reduction in the parasitemia was obtained through the treatment of the infection with benzonidazole; however, the patient died due to complications from diabetes associated with tissue lesions caused by T cruzi. Mural nodules in mucinous ovarian tumors represent a morphologic spectrum of clonal neoplasms: a morphologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular analysis of 13 cases

Summary: Mucinous ovarian tumors rarely have mural nodules, which have historically been classified as sarcoma-like, anaplastic carcinomatous, or sarcomatous. Genetic evidence shows that mural nodules are clonally related to associated tumors, indicating they are a morphologic spectrum of clonal neoplasms rather than distinct entities. Recurrent genetic alterations associated with mural nodule development or differences based on morphology were not identified.

Summary: The study demonstrates an inverse association between F. nucleatum and stromal memory helper T cells in colorectal carcinoma. This relationship is consistent across different tumor characteristics such as microsatellite instability status, neoantigen load, and tumor mutational burden. F. nucleatum was not found to be significantly associated with intraepithelial T cells or M1/M2 TAMs in the tumor microenvironment.

Summary: Researchers have established an immune atlas of PDAC through single-cell resolution profiling, identifying leukocyte features correlated with clinical outcomes, which can serve as a valuable reference for PDAC treatment. The data can aid in deeper understanding of the PDAC immune ecosystem, identifying additional therapeutic targets, and providing predictive biomarkers for therapeutic response and resistance monitoring.

Summary: Granulomatous lobular mastitis (GLM) is a rare and benign chronic breast disease that can be mistaken for early-onset breast cancer. This report describes three cases in which GLM coexisted with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), highlighting how GLM may obscure the presence of concurrent DCIS based on clinical imaging and manifestations.

Comparative expression of trophoblast cell-surface antigen 2 (TROP2) in the different molecular subtypes of invasive breast carcinoma: An immunohistochemical study of 94 therapy-naive primary breast tumors

Richard B. Mertens, Elias P. Makhoul, Xiaomo Li, Farnaz Dadmanesh

Summary: This study compared the expression of TROP2 in different molecular subtypes of breast cancer and found that a majority of carcinomas in each subtype showed intermediate to high levels of TROP2 expression with a wide range of expression. These observations support further investigation of the efficacy of sacituzumab govitecan in all molecular subtypes of breast carcinoma. The wide range of TROP2 expression suggests its potential utility as a biomarker for predicting responsiveness to sacituzumab govitecan. Immunohistochemical staining for TROP2 is critical for identifying patients who are completely negative for TROP2 and may be least likely or unlikely to respond to this agent.

Prognostic implications of synaptophysin, CD56, thyroid transcription factor-1, and Ki-67 in pulmonary high-grade neuroendocrine carcinomas

Summary: This study explores the correlation between the expression of immunohistochemical markers and clinicopathological characteristics of pulmonary high-grade neuroendocrine carcinomas (HGNEC), and its impact on clinical outcomes. The results suggest that positive expression of certain markers is associated with reduced survival in HGNEC patients, and tumor stage is an important predictive factor for prognosis.
