Summary: This study investigated the importance of the expected value of the proportion of Arabian genes (EV%AG) in equine genetic evaluations for eventing. The EV%AG was found to have a significant impact on the different aspects of eventing, including dressage, show jumping, and cross-country. Through multiple genetic models, the best way to model the EV%AG effect was by considering variance heterogeneity. The heritability of dressage and show jumping ranged from 0.10 to 0.21, while cross-country ranged from 0.07 to 0.01.

Summary: This study aimed to identify risk factors for horse falls and found that higher event levels, higher dressage penalties, and longer time since the last start were associated with a higher risk of horse falls. The study is the largest-scale study ever conducted on horse falls in equestrian eventing.

Summary: The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of factors on the results of different judging systems and measurements for warmblood mares in dressage and jumping. The research found that sport type significantly influenced the measurements and traits in the different evaluation systems, with more significant differences in the linear scoring system. The study suggests the need to discover more objective traits to improve accuracy in distinguishing between horse types.

Summary: This study aims to identify factors associated with running clear in the cross-country phase of equestrian eventing. The results show that factors such as lower event level, lower dressage score earlier in the event, fewer recent FEI event starts, and more clear runs in previous FEI events are associated with a higher likelihood of running clear. The study provides a framework for selecting the appropriate competition level for horse/rider combinations, reducing the risk of accidents during cross-country.

Summary: This study found that the way a horse activates and recovers during a sport event can be influenced by genetic background and sex. Differences in effort and recovery between stallions and mares were observed, with stallions showing better recovery after the sport test. High positive correlations were found between effort phase and recovery phase, while a low negative correlation was found between eye temperature increase and ranking position. Genetically, there were medium-high heritabilities with a medium positive genetic correlation between effort and recovery. This suggests that breed origins and sex play a role in horses' performance and recovery during sport events with a suitable genetic basis for selection.

Summary: The study estimated genetic parameters for reproductive traits of Brahman cattle, evaluated genetic correlations and trends, and verified the impact of inbreeding on phenotypes. The results showed significant genetic trends and unfavorable effects of inbreeding on body weight and age at first calving.

Summary: This prospective longitudinal study investigated the changes in blood-based markers for skeletal muscle and cardiac muscle function in elite eventing horses before and after cross-country rides. The findings showed that most parameter concentrations changed in an exercise-dependent manner 30 minutes after exercise, with most exercise-related markers recovering rapidly the next morning. However, creatine kinase (CK) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) showed a sustained increase, and cardiac troponin I (cTnI) exceeded the reference range in some horses.

Summary: This paper analyzes the horse industry in China and introduces relevant policies to promote its economic development. By selecting the fastest-growing period in the modern horse industry, it aims to create an integrated horse industry with Chinese characteristics. The paper also evaluates the development of equestrianism in China and provides recommendations. The research utilized a qualitative approach and collected data from official and semi-official documents.

Summary: This study analyzed data from international-level eventing competitions worldwide and identified factors such as fence and course design that contribute to the risk of horse falls. The results suggest that placing challenging fences early in the course and avoiding downhill or water settings can help reduce the incidence of falls.

Summary: This study provides descriptive statistics and identifies risk factors affecting horses competing in FEI events worldwide. Factors associated with increased risk of falls included higher event levels, longer course distances, more starters at cross-country phase, and less experienced horses and athletes. This could lead to interventions that can reduce the number of falls, thus protecting equine and human welfare.

Summary: An in-depth analysis of the epidemiological patterns of TB/HIV co-infection is essential to effectively control TB and HIV in high-risk areas. This study assessed the spatial clustering of TB/HIV co-infection prevalence in Ethiopia using district-level aggregated TB and HIV data. The results showed geographic heterogeneity in both TB among PLHIV and HIV among TB patients, and identified hot-spot districts for these co-infection data.

Summary: This study examined clinical, echocardiographic and electrocardiographic data of 174 horses presented for a cardiac evaluation as part of their pre-purchase examination (PPE). Most horses had mild disease or physiological murmurs/arrhythmias, but performance-limiting conditions were found in 29 horses. Prognosis given at the time of the PPE was the only significant predictor of the athletic outcome, while signalment, auscultation findings and diagnosis were not significantly associated with prognosis or outcome. Comprehensive cardiac examinations in horses with murmurs and arrhythmias at the time of the pre-purchase examination should be recommended to identify at-risk horses from the sport.

Summary: The concept of correlation is crucial in modern finance research. However, if the population variance is infinite, statistical tools assuming finite variance may yield misleading results. This study shows that foreign exchange rate variances follow power laws with an exponent less than 3, indicating infinite second moments. The authors introduce a new concept called co-fractality to measure dependencies between power-law processes, arguing that it should be used instead of correlation.

Summary: This study investigated the responses of horses to different sounds commonly present in a competition environment and compared these responses in the presence and absence of ear covers. The results showed that horses can discriminate sounds and alter their responses based on the individual stimulus. Additionally, wearing ear covers reduced the overall responsiveness of horses, although the effectiveness varied for different sounds.
