Intermolecular, stepwise functionalization by BH bonds of a (triphosphine)Mo-IV-nitrido complex generated by N-2 splitting is reported. The imido-hydride and di-hydride-amido Mo-IV complexes have been isolated and characterized. Addition of PinBH to the [Mo(H)(2)(N(BPin)(2))](+) complex at room temperature results in the liberation of borylamines from the metal center.

Synthesis of Monodisperse InP Quantum Dots: Use of an Acid-Free Indium Carboxylate Precursor

Leo Angele, Sebastien Dreyfuss, Benoit Dubertret, Nicolas Mezailles

Summary: The role of indium carboxylate precursors in synthesizing monodisperse InP quantum dots was explored. The presence of carboxylic acid affected the reaction kinetics and optical properties of the InP QDs, leading to less controlled formation of nanocrystals. Luminescent quantum dots with a gradated ZnSeS shell were successfully obtained from the synthesized InP core.

Catalytic Reduction of N2 to Borylamine at a Molybdenum Complex

Soukaina Bennaamane, Maria F. Espada, Andrea Mulas, Theo Personeni, Nathalie Saffon-Merceron, Marie Fustier-Boutignon, Christophe Bucher, Nicolas Mezailles

Summary: The catalytic formation of borylamines from atmospheric N2 was achieved for the first time using a series of homogeneous (triphosphine)Mo complexes. Stepwise functionalization of the (triphosphine)Mo-nitrido complex with chloroborane led to the synthesis of the imido complex. Electrochemical characterization revealed that the (PPP)Mo-borylimido complexes are more easily reduced than the (PPP)Mo-nitrido complexes.

Cross-Coupling through Ag(I)/Ag(III) Redox Manifold

Luca Demonti, Nathalie Saffon-Merceron, Nicolas Mezailles, Noel Nebra

Summary: The role of silver as an additive or co-catalyst in cross-coupling reactions is often underestimated, despite its importance in oxidative trifluoromethylation of arenes. New evidence demonstrates the significance of Ag-I/Ag-III redox catalysis for achieving this transformation, showcasing the utility of organosilver(III) compounds in cross-coupling reactions. This work challenges previous misconceptions about the catalytic capabilities of silver in cross-coupling reactions.

Summary: A series of anionic ruthenium pentahydride complexes with different structural features were synthesized and characterized using various techniques. X-ray diffraction provided snapshots of some isomeric structures, while NMR analysis showed these complexes exhibited highly dynamic behavior. The rapid H-D exchange between Ru-H and D-2 was attributed to Li-Ru interactions in the absence of crown-ether.

Cross-Coupling Reactions Enabled by Well-Defined Ag(III) Compounds: Main Focus on Aromatic Fluorination and Trifluoromethylation.

Luca Demonti, Daniel Joven-Sancho, Noel Nebra

Summary: Ag-III compounds are strong oxidizers of difficult handling and their involvement in cross-coupling reactions has been frequently discarded. However, recent studies have shown the existence of organosilver(III) compounds and the possibility of cross-coupling reactions enabled by Ag-I/Ag-III redox cycles. This review summarizes the most relevant contributions in this field, focusing on aromatic fluorination/perfluoroalkylation and the identification of Ag-III key intermediates. Comparison between the activity of (AgRF)-R-III compounds and its (CuRF)-R-III and (AuRF)-R-III congeners in aryl-F and aryl-CF3 couplings is also discussed, providing a deeper understanding of the scope of these transformations and their associated pathways.

Assessing Combinations of B(C6F5)3 and N2-Derived Molybdenum Nitrido Complexes for Heterolytic Bond Activation

Anais Coffinet, David Specklin, Quentin Le De, Soukaina Bennaamane, Luna Munoz, Laure Vendier, Eric Clot, Nicolas Mezailles, Antoine Simonneau

Summary: Two different dinitrogen-derived molybdenum nitrido complexes with different geometries, ligand spheres, and oxidation states were found to bond with the strong Lewis acid B(C6F5)(3) through their N ligand. The stable adducts were then used for heterolytic E-H bond splitting of hydrosilanes (E=Si) and HB(C6F5)(2) in a frustrated Lewis pair-type manner. The results showed successful Si-H bond activation and substitution of B(C6F5)(3) by HB(C6F5)(2), depending on the nature of the nitrido complex. No B-H bond splitting was observed. The computed thermodynamics by DFT were consistent with the experimental outcomes.

Double α,α CH bond insertion into sp3 CH2 moiety: synthesis of a Fe carbene bis-hydride dinitrogen complex

Julien Petit, Anthony Cavaille, Nathalie Saffon-Merceron, Marie Fustier-Boutignon, Nicolas Mezailles

Summary: The reduction of a high spin paramagnetic complex by two electrons under N-2 resulted in the formation of two isomeric low spin diamagnetic complexes, which were successfully isolated and characterized. DFT calculations provided insights into the mechanism of double alpha, alpha CH bond insertion into a single sp(3) CH2 moiety. Fast exchange positions of hydrides in the cis dihydride complex were observed using NMR spectrocscopy.
