Summary: Effective pain management during the perioperative period is crucial for improving patient experience and satisfaction following surgery. This study compared the use of intravenous and intraperitoneal infusions of lidocaine for postoperative pain management in patients undergoing laparoscopic colon resection. The results showed that the intraperitoneal group had significantly lower opioid consumption compared to the intravenous group. This suggests that targeting the peritoneal cavity with local anesthetic administration is an important component of a multimodal pain strategy following colectomy.

Summary: This study developed a modified release system using PVP-THB hydrogel to improve the pharmacological properties of the local anesthetic lidocaine. Mechanical properties and release profiles were investigated, showing slower release of associated LDC and prolonged anesthetic effect in vitro and in animal models. The new formulation of PVP-THB/LDC has potential applications in gradual release of local anesthetics.

Summary: We report a case of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) occurring after a local injection of lidocaine. The patient presented with symptoms of myocardial ischemia, dynamic changes in the ST segment of the electrocardiogram, and significantly elevated levels of cardiac troponin; however, coronary angiography findings were normal. The possible mechanism in this case may be lidocaine-induced coronary artery spasm. The potential serious side effects of lidocaine require the attention and vigilance of clinicians.

Summary: The study showed that acute local administration of genistein significantly attenuated the excitability of SpVc neurons in response to nociceptive and non-nociceptive mechanical stimulation in rats, with a comparable inhibitory effect to the local anesthetic lidocaine. These findings suggest that genistein may act as a local anesthetic to relieve trigeminal nociceptive pain without side effects.

Summary: This study demonstrated that local cutaneous ketamine is as effective as EMLA in relieving pain during venipuncture. While there was no significant difference in pain relief between the two interventions, itching and irritation were more common with EMLA.

Summary: Local anesthetics, especially lidocaine, are commonly used in dentistry with low risk of adverse allergic responses, but the reactions can range from moderate to life-threatening, requiring prompt diagnosis and treatment. This article reviews information on local anesthetics, their adverse reactions, causes, and management.

Summary: The study found that bupivacaine more severely disrupted calcium dynamics in cardiomyocytes compared to ropivacaine. Calcium supplementation improved tissue contractility and restored normal beating rhythm for bupivacaine-treated tissues. However, in a calcium deficiency context, the risk of cardiotoxicity may be higher for bupivacaine compared to ropivacaine.

Summary: This study developed lidocaine membranes with enhanced local anesthetic effects by loading lidocaine chloride into chitosan/polymyxin B sulfate matrix. The membranes showed potential as innovative biomaterial for tissue repair and regeneration, with faster wound healing and reduced damage observed in mouse models. The antibacterial efficacy and particle sizes of the membranes were also evaluated.

Summary: This study demonstrates that benzonatate acts as a local anesthetic at the peripheral nerve, producing sensory and motor nerve blockade. Benzonatate interacts with tetrodotoxin and Tween 80 to prolong nerve blockade. However, benzonatate causes significant myotoxicity, even at subtherapeutic concentrations.

Summary: This study developed photo-triggered implantable polymeric microneedles for drug delivery in a transdermal analgesia system. The prepared PCL/PVP-Fe(3)O(4)NPs were spherical in shape, with sizes ranging from 9 to 11 nm, and showed outstanding insertion ability in porcine skin. Additionally, near-infrared (NIR) irradiation could enhance drug delivery, allowing for painless delivery of lidocaine hydrochloride through the stratum corneum barrier, with a quick onset time.

Summary: Although surgery is a basic therapy for cancer, it often leads to inflammation and immunosuppression, causing recurrence and metastasis. This study demonstrates that lidocaine treatment can inhibit the growth of kidney and cervical cancer cells, and this inhibition is mediated through the regulation of Ki-67 expression and distribution.
