ICP-OES and ICP-MS for the determination of metals: Application to oysters

This mini-review gives a general overview of inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) for the determination of metals in oysters. A brief description of the basic principles, instrumentation, and recent developments is provided. A comparison and selected applications of these two analytical techniques for metal determination in oysters is presented. It was noted that the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) standard reference materials (SRM 1556b, Oyster Tissue) were frequently used for accuracy studies in a wide variety of reports.
