Summary: Secondary growth is crucial for the terrestrialization of plants. Chemical composition analysis revealed that the mature wood from the main trunk in Leucaena leucocephala has superior properties in terms of pulp yield and lignin degradability compared to the juvenile wood from the branch and trunk.

Summary: Gold is commonly used in new microdevices for energy applications, microelectronics, and biomedical solutions due to its excellent electric conductivity and chemical inertness. Fluorine gas coinjection has been found to alter the polarity of gold secondary ions, aiding in the understanding of operation mechanisms and potential degradation processes in microdevices.

Summary: Analytical pyrolysis-based techniques are valuable in the study of lignin in archaeological wooden objects, providing data on its composition and chemical alterations, guiding the choice of preventive conservation practices and optimization of consolidation methods. Lignin is generally more stable than cellulose and hemicelluloses in archaeological artifacts but still undergoes significant chemical changes in burial environments.

Summary: The study introduces an innovative methodology to distinguish four halide ions based on their perturbation effects on the BR reaction. By analyzing the oscillation profiles, the ions can be differentiated accurately and rapidly. The perturbation mechanism for BR is explained based on established NF and FCA models.

Summary: In this study, the chemical sensitivity of a mass spectrometry imaging method called MeV-SIMS was investigated. Samples of two organic compounds, arginine and angiotensin II (human), were bombarded with a primary ion beam within the MeV energy range. The secondary ion yield was measured as a function of molecule density, and the detection limit was determined. The results showed that the sensitivity of MeV-SIMS was significant below an area density of 1015 molecules/cm2.

Summary: Thorough characterization of lignin oil from pine wood using GC x GC analysis revealed the composition, structure, and content of monomers, dimers, and trimers, with a focus on the identification of inter-unit linkages and end-units. Different fractions of the RCF oil showed significant variations in structural motifs, with more polar solvent-extracted lignin fractions containing higher molecular weight fragments and more hydroxyl-containing motifs. The findings of individual dimer and trimer molecules by GC x GC aligned well with recent H-1-C-13 HSQC NMR spectroscopy results, demonstrating the complementarity of both techniques for a comprehensive understanding of lignin structures.

Summary: In this study, kerogens with different heat treatments were bombarded by 25 keV Bi3+ primary ions during analysis by TOF-SIMS, resulting in the production of positive and negative secondary ions with starkly different characteristics. Cations exhibit a wide range of C/H ratios and include highly unsaturated linear chain ions and aromatic ions, while anions tend to be very hydrogen deficient. This research provides insights into the fragmentation behavior of kerogens under high dissociation energies.

Summary: An effective LC x LC/Q-TOF MS method was developed for quantitative determination of 19 active constituents in chrysanthemum species. Principal component analysis, partial least squares discriminant analysis, and hierarchical cluster analysis were used to distinguish the chrysanthemum varieties. LC x LC/Q-TOF MS combined with PCA, PLS-DA, and HCA can be successfully applied for the classification and quality control of chrysanthemum.

Summary: Energetic C-60 ions with energies of the order of MeV are effective for highly sensitive secondary ion (SI) mass spectrometry, providing abundant SIs for the identification of target materials. This study investigated the impact angle dependence of SI mass spectra for MeV C-60 ions, revealing that shallower angle impacts can yield surface-sensitive information through intense emission of surface-derived SIs.
