Summary: Chiral ligand exchange capillary electrophoresis (CLE-CE) has gained significant interest in chiral separation science due to its simplicity, tunable migration order, and outstanding performance. However, challenges such as limited chiral ligand species, unclear mechanism of enantioseparation, and unsatisfactory enantioseparation efficiency restrict its applications. Designing desirable chiral ligand species and exploring profitable central metal ions are efficient strategies to overcome these obstacles and improve the performance and application of CLE-CE.

Summary: In this study, a simple and efficient method for separating baclofen enantiomers by capillary electrophoresis was established. Molecular modeling and density functional theory were used to simulate and investigate the chiral resolution mechanism of electrophoresis, and the calculated intermolecular forces were directly presented by visualization software. Furthermore, the theoretical and experimental electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra of ionized baclofen were compared to determine the configuration of the dominant enantiomer in the nonracemic mixture.

Summary: The interaction of V(IV) and V(V) with succinic acid was studied using affinity capillary electrophoresis (ACE) in aqueous acid solutions. Protonated complexes were formed between V(IV) and V(V) and the succinic acid ligand at the tested pH range. The stability constants were determined and the simultaneous analysis of V(IV) and V(V) using ACE was found to be efficient and time-saving.

Summary: A novel L-Arg-modified PDA-coated capillary was fabricated for high-performance enantioseparation of D,L-amino acids using a basic amino-acid-induced PDA co-deposition strategy. The enhanced enantioseparation capability and stability of the system were significantly improved compared to bare and PDA-functionalized capillaries. The method also showed promising prospects for enzyme assays and related applications by studying the enzyme kinetics of L-glutamic dehydrogenase.

Summary: Chiral CE methods were used to separate and identify the configuration of the tyrosine residue in β-Ala-Tyr, and to evaluate the enantiopurity of its synthetic isomers and derivatives. The results showed that the isolated β-Ala-Tyr was pure L-enantiomer.

Summary: DOM influences the environmental fate and toxic effects of trace metals such as mercury. Different DOM isolates showed a wide range of binding strengths to Hg(II) due to their heterogeneous properties. DOM chromophores, including aromaticity and molecular weight, are critical indicators of the DOM-Hg affinity in ambient-relevant circumstances. Higher terrestrial DOM led to greater DOM-Hg affinity. UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy can be used to estimate DOM composition and its binding strength with Hg(II). The relationship between logK and DOM properties provides a possible pathway of explanation for the spatial co-variations between Hg(II) concentrations and DOM characters observed in previous field investigations.

Summary: This study proposes a capillary electrophoresis method to analyze misused growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) analogs. The use of dimethyl-beta-cyclodextrin as a chiral selector allows the separation of basic peptide analogs, including enantiopeptides that differ by one amino acid chirality. Electrokinetic preconcentration methods were investigated to increase sensitivity. The combination of preconcentration with chiral capillary zone electrophoresis successfully separates GHRH analogs with detection limits ranging from 75 to 200 ng/mL.

Summary: The study utilized capillary electrophoresis coupled to LED-induced fluorescence detection and CBQCA labeling for the analysis of amino acids such as tryptophan, facing challenges in detection and quantification, especially for Trp. Another approach, CE/capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection, showed better performance for quantification of Trp, Tyr, Val, and Ile, with a LOD of 2 μM for Trp.

Summary: Novel chiral capillary electrochromatography (CEC) microsystems were constructed based on Aspergillus sp. CM96. As cell chirality is a newly discovered intrinsic characteristic of the cell, it plays an essential role in life evolution. Aspergillus sp. CM96 spore (CM96s) was chosen to develop chiral capillary columns, and baseline separation of various amino acid (AA) enantiomers was achieved under optimized conditions. The time-dependent chiral interactions between AAs and CM96s were also explored. Immobilization of pectinases generated from Aspergillus sp. CM96 fermentation onto graphene oxide-functionalized capillary silica monoliths facilitated the separation of AA enantiomers. Molecular docking simulations were performed to understand the chiral separation mechanisms of pectinase for AA enantiomers. These results highlight the significant advantage of Aspergillus sp. CM96-based CEC microsystems in chiral separation.

Summary: A chiral capillary electrophoresis (CE) method has been developed to separate the P- and M-enantiomers of 11 new diquats, achieving fast and efficient separations within 5-7 minutes. The method utilizes acidic buffer and sulfated cyclodextrins as chiral selectors, with sulfated γ-cyclodextrin showing the best selectivity by baseline separating all 11 diquats.

Summary: CE and MCE methods were developed and applied for the analysis of amino acids in cell culture supernatant. The results showed that these methods were sensitive and the relative concentration changes agreed well with HPLC results. In addition, CE and MCE methods were faster and resulted in lower sample and reagent consumption.
