Summary: Schiff base modified PAMAM dendrimer/silica hybrid materials were synthesized and used for removing aqueous Zn(II) and Ni(II). The study investigated the influence of various factors on the removal effect and revealed the interaction mechanism between adsorbents and metal ions through DFT calculation and XPS analysis. The results showed comparable adsorption properties for Zn(II) and Ni(II) and identified the key role of imino N atoms and carbonyl O atoms in the adsorption process.

Summary: A bimodal colorimetric and fluorescent chemosensor 1o for detecting fluoride (F-) in DMSO was synthesized by reacting imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine-2-carbohydrazide and 2,5-dihydroxybenzaldehyde. The structure of 1o was characterized using H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, and MS. Chemosensor 1o showed high selectivity and sensitivity for F- detection, with a low detection limit of 193.5 nM, below the allowed maximum value by WHO. It could also be manufactured into test strips for convenient solid-state fluoride detection without additional equipment.

Summary: A new Zn(II)-based coordination polymer (1) with a Schiff base ligand was synthesized and characterized. Compound 1 was found to be a sensitive fluorescent sensor for acetone and Ag+ ions. It also showed selective adsorption of cationic dyes. These findings suggest that compound 1 has potential applications as a luminescent probe for the detection of acetone, other ketones, and Ag+ ions.

Summary: In this study, a new series of Schiff base metal complexes were synthesized and characterized. The thermal stability and photophysical properties of these complexes were investigated. The results showed that the metal ions affected the thermal strength and fluorescence quenching constant of the complexes, with the Cu(II) complex exhibiting the highest thermal strength. Due to their high fluorescence quenching constants, these complexes could be potential active ingredients in anticancer drug transport systems.

Summary: Metal complexes of Co(II), Zn(II), and Cu(II) with purine base Schiff base ligands L1 and L2 were synthesized and characterized. The coordination of the ligands to the metal centers and their structural details were confirmed through spectroscopic and DFT studies. The binding modes of oxygen atoms in L1 and L2 complexes were found to be different. Cobalt complexes of L1 and L2 showed high DNA binding activity, with a binding constant in the order of 105 via intercalation mode. Molecular docking study provided insights into the active binding site between the metal complexes and CT-DNA.

Summary: This contribution elucidates the importance of non-covalent interactions, particularly hydrogen bonds and other short-contact interactions, on the conformational preferences of mono and dihalo-salicylic acid derivatives. The modulation of pi-aromaticity in the studied systems in the presence of these interactions is confirmed using the nucleus-independent chemical shift (NICS) descriptor.
