Summary: Polyurethane hydrogels are widely used in various fields due to their durability, flexibility, and biocompatibility. In this study, polyurethane-based hydrogels were prepared using polyethylene glycol and a novel lactose monomer. It was found that the swelling of the hydrogels was driven by the hydrophilicity of the lactose units. Sulfation of the lactose rings resulted in high-swelling polyelectrolyte hydrogels. Furthermore, the effects of PEG molecular weight, degree of crosslinking, and sulfation on the swelling of the hydrogels were investigated.

Summary: A multifunctional hydrogel with conductivity, adhesiveness, toughness, self-healing and anti-swelling properties was successfully prepared by adding HACC to the PAA/Fe3+ cross-linking system. The hydrogel exhibited excellent mechanical properties, self-healing efficiency, anti-swelling properties, and adhesiveness, making it a promising candidate for flexible sensor applications. The introduction of iron ions provided sensitive conductivity, enabling direct monitoring of various motions.

Summary: In this study, two synthetic chitosan derivatives were investigated as high-efficient acidic corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel. The experimental results showed that the inhibition efficiency of these chitosan derivatives was 98.4% and 98.5% at a concentration of 100 mg/L. The adsorption mechanism at the steel/solution interface was revealed through quantum chemical calculations.

Summary: Chitosan hydrogels are widely used in many industries for their versatility and antimicrobial properties. However, their limitations arise from poor mechanical properties and the need to use toxic compounds during fabrication. This study synthesized a soluble and antimicrobial chitosan derivative (HTCC) and compared different crosslinking agents' effects on hydrogel formation. The addition of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) improved the mechanical properties and the release of Ag ions effectively inhibited the growth of various bacteria.

Summary: Under certain conditions, chloride ions play a dual role in the formation of a polymerized [Cu-Cl-MBI](n) film, as confirmed by time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry and focused ion beam microscopy analysis. Additionally, the formation of the inhibitor layer in NaCl solution showed outstanding resistance to degradation.

Summary: Dealloying of S-phase particles on AA2024-T3 results in highly cathodic Cu-rich particles, leading to galvanic corrosion environment and localised dissolution of adjacent matrix. Evaluation of such galvanic activities is crucial for effective corrosion inhibitors development. The use of a multielectrode with Al-Cu electrodes effectively models these interactions and differentiates inhibitors for localised corrosion control, showing potential for environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitors like praseodymium mercaptoacetate.

Summary: This study investigates the adsorption dynamics and inhibition behavior of 2-phenyl imidazoline (2-PI) and benzotriazole (BTA) on copper surfaces in atmospheric and aqueous environments. The synergistic effects of 2-PI and BTA on copper corrosion are explored, revealing inhibition efficiencies of up to 99.1% in NaCl solution and 94.1% in the atmosphere. Theoretical calculations indicate an intermolecular interaction between 2-PI and BTA molecules during coadsorption on copper surfaces.

Summary: By employing Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Monte Carlo (MC) computational methods, this study investigated the corrosion inhibition potential and mechanism of small peptides derived from aliphatic amino acids on iron, copper, and aluminum surfaces. The research demonstrates that the adsorption energy of peptides on metal surfaces increases with the number of amino acid residues, leading to enhanced inhibitory effects. The findings highlight the promising prospects of using small peptides as effective green corrosion inhibitors.
