Summary: In this study, a highly sensitive electrochemical sensor was developed for the detection of ultra-trace levels of Pb2+. The sensor was modified with an in-situ electroplated bismuth film and a nanocomposite of a recently synthesized melamine based covalent organic framework and Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The combination of Fe3O4@SNW1 and the bismuth film significantly enhanced the sensitivity of the sensor towards Pb2+. The optimized sensor showed a linear response in the concentration range of 0.003-0.3 μmol L-1 with a detection limit of 0.95 nmol L-1. The sensor demonstrated good selectivity towards Pb2+ and was successfully applied for the determination of Pb2+ in different edible specimens.

Summary: The electrochemical oxidation of 5-methylcytosine was studied at glassy carbon electrode in aqueous solution, revealing a single, irreversible reaction step controlled by diffusion, generating intermediate radicals. C5 methylated pyrimidines are more easily oxidized and reactive compared to unmethylated bases. A new electroanalytical method using differential pulse voltammetry for quantification of DNA methylation was proposed, showing promising results for detection of 5-mCyt.

Summary: A practical strategy for detecting trace-level As(III) in natural water without any modifiers using soluble Fe3+ as a trigger is reported. The method achieves an actual detection limit of 1 ppb and a sensitivity of 0.296 mu A ppb(-1) with excellent stability. The codeposition mechanism of Fe3+ preferentially depositing as Fe-0 is confirmed, which facilitates the adsorption of As(III) and H+ on the electrode surface and the formation of AsH3.

Summary: This paper reports the development of a portable system using anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV) for the determination of trace As(III) in water samples. The portable system consists of a three-electrode mini cell with plastic conductive electrodes. The accumulation of As(III) on the disposable working electrode and its subsequent detection by anodic potential scan were studied. The limit of detection was 0.2 μg L-1 and the repeatability at the 5.0 μg L-1 As(III) level was 4.7% (n = 10). The portable setup was successfully applied to analyze different groundwater samples with recoveries between 95% and 105%.

Summary: In this study, a new cocaine sensor using a simple hydrothermal protocol to fabricate octahedral palladium-doped cobaltite composite (Oh-Pd2+ : Co3O4-C) was developed. Various methods were employed to validate the fabricated cocaine sensing approach. Energy dispersive X-ray analysis, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy were used to characterize the charged modified composite. The electrode showed high sensitivity in detecting cocaine, with a wide linear range (0.01 mu M-900.0 mu M) and a low detection limit (1.3 nM). Quantitative determination of cocaine in biological samples was successfully achieved using the modified electrode, yielding promising results.

Summary: The aim of this study is to obtain Ti-containing Periodic Mesoporous Organosilica (PMO) materials with catalytic activity in epoxidation reactions. The Ti-PMO materials possess ordered 2-dimensional hexagonal mesostructures, high surface areas, uniform pore sizes, large pore volumes, and tetrahedrally incorporated Ti(IV) species on the surface of the pore walls. The catalytic activities of these materials were tested in the epoxidation of cyclohexene and vernonia oil, showing good conversion rates and selectivity.

Summary: This study attempted to assist the sustainable synthesis of MOFs using non-ionic surfactants in aqueous solutions at room temperature. NH2-MIL-53(Al) and MIL-100(Fe) exhibited preferential crystal growth along a certain direction, while UiO-66 type (Zr-BDC and NH2-Zr-BDC) MOFs showed no significant difference. However, the surfactant templated UiO-66 type Zr-MOFs had larger particles compared to their parent MOFs.

Summary: Scientists reported the discovery of a new type of chiral zeolite material, GTM-3, with extra-large pores. This material demonstrated excellent enantioselectivity and the ability to catalyze reactions with bulky substrates. The researchers achieved unprecedented product enantiomeric excesses of up to 30% by catalyzing the epoxide aperture of transstilbene oxide with alcohols. This discovery opens new possibilities for the catalytic asymmetric synthesis of chiral pharmaceutical compounds using chiral zeolite materials.

Summary: In this study, the asymmetric catalytic activity of GTM-3 chiral zeolite in the ring-opening reaction of trans-stilbene oxide using alcohols as nucleophiles was systematically explored. The results showed that a proper chiral host-guest size match is crucial for the chiral manifestation of the zeolite catalyst. Additionally, secondary alcohols with larger size exhibited higher enantioselectivity than their linear counterparts. Furthermore, variation of reaction conditions, such as the concentration of the epoxide and reaction temperature, could greatly influence the enantioselectivity and selectivity of the reaction.

Summary: In this study, high-resolution H-1 MAS NMR was used to distinguish between two aggregation states of (1R,2S)-ephedrine occluded within AFI-type microporous aluminophosphates. The investigation focused on the supramolecular assembly of ephedrine molecules and the distances between aromatic rings and their closest protons inside the zeolite channels. The combination of two-dimensional spin diffusion spectra, molecular simulations, and DFT calculations allowed for precise estimation of these distances.
