Development and evaluation of the novel chitosan-based 1% clindamycin & 2.5% benzoyl peroxide transferosomal gel for topical acne treatment

Summary: A novel chitosan-based transferosomal gel containing 1% clindamycin and 2.5% benzoyl peroxide was developed for the treatment of acne. The gel effectively encapsulated the active ingredients and demonstrated significant advantages in terms of skin deposition and permeation. In vivo studies on mice showed enhanced efficacy compared to standard treatment, with no skin irritation observed.

Antibacterial and Anti-Acne Activity of Benzoyl Peroxide Nanoparticles Incorporated in Lemongrass Oil Nanoemulgel

Summary: The study aimed to create a BPO nanoemulgel formulation to enhance its antibacterial properties. The formulation was prepared by combining BPO nanoemulsion with Carbopol hydrogel, and its solubility was tested in different oils and surfactants. The results showed that the nanoemulgel formulation had better antimicrobial activity against bacteria and acne compared to the market product. In conclusion, nanoemulgel is a promising approach for delivering BPO as it improves drug stability and antibacterial efficacy.

A novel plaster containing benzoyl peroxide microsponges: Formulation, development and evaluation

Summary: This study developed a medical plaster containing benzoyl peroxide microsponges and successfully transferred the microsponges onto cotton fabrics. The drug contents of the fabrics containing benzoyl peroxide loaded microsponge were within the range of 68.512-102.873%, and more than 40% of the drug was released within 6 hours.

Adapalene/benzoyl peroxide gel is considered safe and highly effective compared to other topical therapies, but cost and lack of generic alternatives may limit its use.

Distinct skin microbiome modulation following different topical acne treatments in mild acne vulgaris patients: A randomized, investigator-blinded exploratory study

Summary: The effects of three non-antibiotic acne treatments (DC, VAA, and BP) on skin microbiota were compared in this study. It was found that VAA and BP significantly reduced bacterial diversity at month 1, while DC group showed no significant change. The compositions of microbiota also significantly altered in all treatment groups. Increased abundance of Cutibacterium and decreased abundance of Staphylococcus were observed in DC group, while the opposite trend was demonstrated in VAA and BP groups. These findings suggest a potential impact of DC, VAA, and BP on the diversity and composition profiles of the skin microbiota in mild acne participants.

Topical methylene blue nanoformulation for the photodynamic therapy of acne vulgaris

Summary: The current work focuses on developing a topical drug delivery system for acne treatment. MCP116, a deep eutectic mixture prepared from choline chloride, malonic acid, and PEG400, showed promising characteristics in terms of viscosity, spreadability, partition coefficient, and in vitro diffusion. It also exhibited synergistic antibacterial activity and superior diffusion compared to the pure drug and the commercial product. MCP116 demonstrated physical and chemical stability at various temperatures.

Summary: Due to the progressive ageing of the population, the incidence of facial lentigo maligna (LM) is increasing. This study aims to develop a risk-scoring classifier-based algorithm to estimate the probability of atypical pigmented facial lesions (aPFLs) being malignant, and compare its diagnostic accuracy with that of dermatologists. The results show that the facial iDScore model is more accurate in diagnosis and can reduce the number of unnecessary biopsies.
