Summary: This study aimed to describe and analyze the clinical features, complications, and laboratory parameters of children diagnosed with APSGN. The study found that most patients had acute nephritic syndrome features, but some had unusual clinical presentations such as pulmonary edema. It also found that the majority of patients showed improvement in clinical symptoms within three months, but a small proportion experienced persistent hypertension, impaired kidney function, and proteinuria.

Summary: Increasing evidence suggests a critical role of the immune system in acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis (APSGN), with renal glomerular immune complex deposition being crucial in disease initiation. Different host factors and streptococcal factors may contribute to both the initial and late renal events associated with nephritis. The disease may not be solely attributed to a single streptococcal antigen and its antibody, but rather to a combination of factors related to both streptococcus and host factors.

Summary: A 44-year-old woman was admitted with gross hematuria and progressive renal dysfunction, suspected of having poststreptococcal acute glomerulonephritis (PSAGN). However, she was diagnosed with ANCA-associated vasculitis superimposed on PSAGN, which was the main contributor to her progressive renal injury.

Summary: An 8-year-old girl presented with vomiting, gross hematuria, and renal dysfunction. Renal biopsy confirmed endocapillary proliferative glomerulopathy and crescent formation. Further tests revealed positive myeloperoxidase anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (MPO-ANCA), and the patient developed palisaded neutrophilic and granulomatous dermatitis (PNGD), as well as granulomatous neoplasms in the orbital and paranasal sinuses. She was diagnosed with MPO-ANCA-associated granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) superimposed on post-streptococcal acute glomerulonephritis (PSAGN). Aggressive treatment including renal replacement therapy and immunosuppressive medications resulted in renal function improvement and alleviation of pain symptoms.

Summary: Acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis (APSGN) is an immunological complication of infection with group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus, with a favorable prognosis in children. The disease typically presents with macroscopic or microscopic hematuria, hypertension, edema, and acute kidney injury.

Summary: PRES is a rare but serious disease that affects the central nervous system. This case report describes a rare occurrence of PRES following APSGN in a 14-year-old child in a high-altitude environment. The hypoxic conditions of a high-altitude setting might lower the cerebral autoregulation threshold and amplify the endothelial inflammatory reaction, thus inducing PRES in patients with APSGN. Recognizing the clinical and radiologic features of PRES and adjuvant HBO therapy can promote rapid recovery from this condition in high-altitude areas.

Summary: Post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis is an immune-complex mediated inflammation caused by nephritogenic strains of group A beta-hemolytic streptococci, leading to kidney injury and potential complications. Diagnosis relies on laboratory tests and imaging studies, with symptomatic management as the primary treatment approach and prevention focusing on treating group A streptococcal infections.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the current and historical incidence rates and organisms involved in skin and soft tissue (SST) infections caused by nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) in the Northern Territory (NT). A retrospective review of NTM cases reported from 1989 to 2021 was conducted. The results showed an increasing incidence of SST cases over the study period, with females being more commonly affected. The most common risk factor was localized skin trauma, and the most frequently identified organism was M. fortuitum. Diagnosis was often delayed, and most cases required surgical intervention and adjunctive anti-mycobacterial medical therapy.

Summary: This paper investigates the lateral load capacity and failure modes of a common SSWF braced bay configuration used in the Northern Territory, Australia, through full-scale experimental testing and finite element simulations. The common failure modes were found to be the tensile failure of the stud flange and failure of the weld between the tensile stud and bottom plate. The results provide a reliable evaluation of the lateral resistance of the common SSWF configurations in housing in the Northern Territory.

Summary: The diagnosis and hospitalization rates of Kawasaki disease (KD) have increased in the 0-4 year age group in Australia over the past 25 years. This rise may reflect a true increase in disease incidence, increasing recognition, or overdiagnosis. Further research is needed to determine the cause of these trends.

Summary: This study examines the impact of different government communication strategies on people's attitudes towards staying home or going out during the COVID-19 pandemic. It also investigates how individuals perceive and process the risk of viral transmission in different scenarios. The results suggest that the level of risk and communication framings play a significant role in shaping attitudes towards going out. Additionally, age and gender were found to be associated with permissive attitudes. These findings suggest the importance of employing imperative communication strategies for increasing compliance with staying home.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the statistical approaches, methods, and completeness of reporting in reviews that meta-analyze results from interrupted time series (ITS). The results showed that although most reviews used two-stage meta-analysis and fitted random effects models, reporting of the statistical methods and ITS characteristics was often incomplete. The study suggests that improvement is needed in the conduct and reporting of these reviews.

Summary: This study compared the demographic characteristics, treatments, and outcomes of patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) with COVID-19 during different waves of the pandemic in Australia. The results showed that the characteristics and treatments of patients admitted during the third wave differed from the first two waves. Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of different COVID-19 vaccines. The results showed that the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine had higher effectiveness in preventing primary infections compared to mRNA-1273, ChAdOx-1 nCov-19, and NVX-CoV2373. For booster doses, the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine also showed good effectiveness.
