Summary: This report examines the case of a 66-year-old patient with metastatic prostate cancer. Treatment with abiraterone acetate and corticosteroid co-administration as well as LH-RH analog hormone therapy was initiated. The patient developed fulminant hepatitis, attributing it to the abiraterone acetate treatment. Regular monitoring of liver tests on this therapy is important.

Summary: Hepatitis E is commonly transmitted through consuming pig-derived products in developed countries. The infection is usually asymptomatic or self-limiting, but can lead to acute liver failure. This study reports a case of a diabetic patient in his 60s without chronic liver disease who developed coma and ultimately died from metformin overdose and fulminant hepatitis E. The study highlights the importance of HEV testing in diabetic patients.

Summary: In England, screening blood donations with nucleic acid test (NAT) has largely eliminated infectious HEV, but missed detection of low levels of HEV RNA can lead to severe infections. More sensitive screening methods are needed to prevent transmission risks.

Summary: Immune checkpoint inhibitors are an important treatment option for tumors, but can lead to immune-related adverse events. This case report presents a patient with widespread metastatic melanoma who developed rapid onset anasarca and transaminitis after treatment with dual anti-PD-1/CTLA-4 therapy. Further investigation revealed celiac disease, which resolved with a gluten-free diet. This case emphasizes the need for a broad differential diagnosis when managing suspected immune-related adverse events.

Summary: This is the first report of two cases of fulminant myocarditis (FM) occurring after administration of the currently available inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging revealed myocardial edema and necrosis, while pathological evaluation showed inflammatory cell infiltration, myocyte necrosis, and fibrosis. The patients recovered and were discharged after comprehensive treatment. These findings highlight the importance of paying more attention to the rare but lethal complications of COVID-19 vaccination.

Summary: Acute liver failure is a severe clinical condition with high mortality rates, and viral hepatitis, especially dual infection of HAV and HEV, can further exacerbate liver damage and increase the mortality rate. Prompt diagnosis, timely intervention, and organ transplantation are crucial for treating liver failure.

Summary: PRES is a rare neurological disorder caused by cerebral perfusion dysregulation. In this case, inappropriate self-medication with an oral decongestant triggered PRES in a patient with end-stage renal disease undergoing hemodialysis, along with a concurrent bloodstream infection. Prompt diagnosis and intervention are crucial in managing this life-threatening condition.

Summary: We report a case of chronic HEV infection of genotype 3a in an individual without evidence for immune deficiency. The patient presented hepatitis with significant HEV viremia and viral shedding. Despite the presence of HEV-specific immune responses, viral shedding persisted. Treatment with ribavirin combined with interferon led to complete suppression and clearance of HEV, suggesting that chronic HEV infection can occur in individuals without evidence of immunodeficiency.

Summary: We report a rare case of co-infection with hepatitis E viruses, Clonorchis sinensis, and Escherichia coli. The patient was hospitalized due to fatigue, jaundice, and nausea. Laboratory tests confirmed the presence of hepatitis E virus, Clonorchis sinensis, and Escherichia coli. Treatment with praziquantel, imipenem, and hepatoprotective drugs was effective in relieving the clinical symptoms.

Summary: The common side effects of COVID-19 vaccination are usually self-restricted local reactions. However, rare cases of autoimmune hepatitis have been reported in individuals vaccinated with mRNA COVID-19 vaccines. This article presents a case of a young man who developed fulminant hepatitis a few days after receiving the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. Despite ruling out other causes, it was confirmed that the fulminant hepatitis was secondary to the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in this patient. Unfortunately, the patient died three days later due to disseminated intravascular coagulopathy.

Summary: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a serious global health issue, and Spain ranks high in antibiotic consumption in Europe. Adequate training on AMR and rational use of antimicrobials is crucial to prevent a post-antibiotic era. The SWICEU project, an academic program about antibiotic discovery, has had a positive impact on pre-university students' knowledge of AMR and rational use of antibiotics. The project has also received high satisfaction from university and pre-university students.
