Summary: This study examined the time loss resulting from sport-related concussions in high school student-athletes across various sports and found that more than 30% of concussed student-athletes were not cleared for unrestricted return to participation within 14 days, with 13% taking longer than 21 days to fully recover. The results suggest that it is not uncommon for high school student-athletes to require more than two weeks to recover from a concussion, providing insights for educating athletes and stakeholders on realistic recovery expectations.

Summary: This systematic review aimed to identify sports injury surveillance systems (ISSs) and injury surveillance guidelines (ISGs) developed and currently used in Japan. The review found that there are five ISSs developed in the sports field in Japan, most of which are based on insurance benefits or condolence payment systems. In addition, more than half of the studies used ISSs or ISGs developed overseas as resources for data collection tools or methods, indicating modifications to the definition and classification of injuries based on the needs of sports in Japan. Therefore, establishing club-based or organizational ISSs and ISGs that are appropriate for sports in Japan is necessary.

Summary: The study aimed to assess injury patterns in collegiate club quidditch athletes over three seasons. The overall injury incidence rate for quidditch injuries was 4.55 per 1000 athlete exposures. Male athletes had a higher injury rate compared to females, with the most common injuries being lower extremity injuries and sprains. The study identified areas for improvement in education, injury prevention, and athlete care, particularly in relation to concussions in quidditch.

Summary: This study aimed to describe injury epidemiology of seven youth sports, with American football having the highest injury incidence. Concussion was the most common injury type, with a majority of injuries occurring through player contact. Valid comparisons of injury risk between youth sports were enabled by the standardized data collection methods employed in this study.

Summary: The study aimed to identify determinants of lower-extremity injury severity and recovery among high school soccer players in the US, with findings indicating higher odds of season-ending game-related injuries compared to practice-related injuries. Gender, setting, and playing surface were significant determinants of time loss following lower-extremity injuries, with differences in recovery durations across levels of these variables for similarly severe injuries.

Summary: Previous research has found a significant association between sustaining a concussion and suicidality in adolescents. However, this study found that after controlling for other relevant variables, there was no significant association between concussion and suicidality, except for a significant relationship between concussion and suicide attempts in boys.

Summary: The study found that injury rates were higher in competitions than in practices for NCAA women's gymnastics athletes, although practice injury rates increased during the period from 2015-2016 through 2018-2019. The most common types of injuries were strains, sprains, and inflammatory conditions, with overuse injuries being more prevalent in practices. Concussions were the most commonly reported specific injury, and further attention is needed on the etiologies of overuse injuries and inflammatory conditions, as well as the biomechanical aspects of concussions.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of patient volume on knee function outcomes after ACL reconstruction at physical therapy clinics. The results showed no clinically relevant difference in the occurrence of secondary ACL injuries or in patient-reported outcomes, muscle function recovery, and return to pre-injury activity level between high- and low-volume clinics during the first year.

Summary: Consumer product-related traumatic brain injury in school-aged children has shown an increasing trend over the past two decades, peaking in 2012 and declining afterwards, with a higher incidence rate in males. Prevention efforts should focus on reducing consumer product-related traumatic brain injury in female children.
