Summary: This study compares the diversity and functions of gut microbiota in feces and other intestinal parts of domestic yaks. The results show significant differences in microbial diversity among eight intestinal parts. However, there are no significant differences between the feces and cecum, as well as the feces and colon. Most fecal microbiota originate from the cecum and colon.

Summary: This study measured the fibrolytic enzyme activities in the caecum and colon of donkeys and determined the fungal community composition in their hindgut. The results showed that the fibrolytic enzyme activity was higher in the colon, and there were more beneficial fungi in the colon as well. These findings are important for understanding hindgut function and dietary fiber degradation mechanisms in donkeys.

Summary: Diagnostic iatrogenic colonic perforation is more frequent in older women, mostly occurring in the rectosigmoid region, and can be immediately detected. Endoscopic repair is more suitable for diagnostic perforations and smaller perforations.

Summary: Iatrogenic colon perforation (ICP) is a severe complication of colonoscopy, and its treatment options include endoscopic repair, conservative therapy, and surgery. The treatment decision is based on various factors, such as the timing, setting, type and location of the perforation, and the patient's clinical status. This study analyzed the clinical presentation, therapeutic approach, and short-term outcomes of patients with ICP at Bnai-Zion Medical Center.

Summary: A multicenter long-term cohort study has shown that endoscopic band ligation (EBL) is an effective and safe treatment for colonic diverticular hemorrhage (CDH), with lower rebleeding rates, reduced need for interventional radiology, and shorter length of hospital stay.

Summary: Lymphangiomas are benign malformations of the lymphatic vessels, which can be primary or secondary in etiology. Colonic involvement is rare and often incidental. We present a case of colonic lymphangiomatosis with free air under the diaphragm, requiring surgical removal. The pathology confirmed the diagnosis, and the patient had a successful recovery with no complications.

Summary: Colonic drug delivery allows access to specific therapeutic targets, improving drug bioavailability and minimizing off-target effects. However, successful design and development of colon-targeted medicines require careful consideration of the colon's distinct physiological environment. This review discusses the important parameters for effective design and formulation strategies for colon-targeted drugs.

Summary: The study found that attending physicians advance the scope during colonoscopy faster and with significantly less colonic displacement compared to resident trainees. Those who used torque steering also caused lower maximum colonic displacement than those who used knob steering.

Summary: Colonoscopy poses a risk for colon ischemia due to various factors such as impaired splanchnic circulation, medications used for sedation, bowel preparation, bowel wall ischemia from insufflation, and endoscope insertion. Gastroenterologists should be aware of these risk factors to minimize risks, facilitate early diagnosis, and administer appropriate treatment.
