Summary: More than half of patients with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) have reversible airway obstruction, which is not correlated with markers of atopy. Inhaled bronchodilators and corticosteroid therapies are commonly used for treating PCD.

Summary: This study aimed to use bronchial remodeling to better characterize severe preschool wheezers. The findings suggest that assessing bronchial remodeling can help identify subgroups of severe preschool wheezers and predict their risk of subsequent exacerbations. This has important implications for clinical management.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of using FENO, sEOS%, FEF25-75% predicted value, and FEF25-75% z-scores as surrogate markers predicting BHR in young adults with suspected CVA. The results demonstrated that these markers have good diagnostic value in predicting BHR in patients with suspected CVA.

Summary: This study evaluated the association between urinary arsenic concentration and bronchial asthma diagnosis in children in Arica, Chile. The findings suggest that children with higher urinary arsenic concentration have a greater chance of developing asthma. Additionally, the association increased among children of different ethnicities.

Summary: Regulatory peptides play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of asthma, exacerbating symptoms for some while ameliorating them for others. Interacting with peptide receptors located in the lungs or on immune cells offers new therapeutic possibilities for treating asthma, especially in cases where current therapies are ineffective.

Summary: Bronchial thermoplasty can significantly reduce severe exacerbations, hospitalizations, emergency department visits, and corticosteroid usage in patients with severe asthma even after a 5-year follow-up. Clinical improvement was observed in all subgroups regardless of baseline clinical and biomarker characteristics.

Summary: This study compared the diagnostic performance of methacholine and mannitol in bronchial challenge tests and found that mannitol had better diagnostic performance for identifying BHR in asthma compared to methacholine. However, substantial between-study heterogeneity necessitates caution when interpreting the data.

Summary: Exposure to PHMG was found to significantly enhance BHR and airway inflammation in a mouse model of asthma, suggesting a role in increasing allergic responses and lung inflammation. Additionally, increased levels of CCL11 and SERPINF1 were observed in the lungs of these mice, indicating a potential mechanism for the enhanced effects of PHMG on asthma.

Summary: Infants with reported colic exhibit fussier behavior, more sleeping problems, and are breastfed less at 6 months compared to non-colic infants. Mothers of colic infants perceive their children's temperament as more challenging. Additionally, colic infants are more likely to have inadequate sleep and frequent night awakenings from 6 months to 5 years.

Summary: Asthma is an inflammatory airway disease that develops due to a combination of genetic predisposition and environmental exposures. Maternal asthma during pregnancy has been found to affect the phenotype of childhood asthma. This study shows that maternal allergen exposure alters fetal lung development, leading to increased airway hyperreactivity and inflammation in offspring. It also influences the cytokine response and increases airway epithelial sensory nerve density.

Summary: Asthma is a disease characterized by airway inflammation, airway hyperresponsiveness, and airway remodeling. Current antibody therapeutics and biomarkers for asthma treatment are not satisfactory, and an ideal phenotype classification is needed to predict the response to antibody treatment.

Summary: Parental mental disorders increase the risk for insecure attachment in children, but the quality of caregiver-infant interaction is crucial in infant attachment development. This study found that the latency to reparation of uncoordinated dyadic states is associated with infant behavioral and neuroendocrine regulation. Infant attachment quality can predict neuroendocrine reactivity in childhood.

Summary: This study analyzed longitudinal data to investigate the impact of age and other factors on susceptibility to RV-C infections. The results showed that while RV-A and RV-C infections were similar in infancy, RV-C detection decreased with age while neutralizing antibody prevalence increased. The ratio of RV-C to RV-A detection during illnesses was found to be related to age, genetics, and wheezing illnesses, indicating potential factors influencing susceptibility to RV-C.

Summary: The study found that certain cytokines had higher concentrations in ALRI cases compared to non-respiratory controls, and that levels of certain cytokines were higher in ALRI cases with viruses. Additionally, HIV-infected cases had significantly lower levels of certain cytokines compared to HIV-uninfected cases, while levels of other cytokines were significantly higher in HIV-infected cases.
