Summary: The role of EGF signaling in mouse trophoblast differentiation was investigated using mouse trophoblast stem cells (mTSCs) in an in vitro culture system. EGF stimulation at the early stage of differentiation repressed mTSC differentiation into spongiotrophoblast cells (SpT) through the EGF-Egfr-MAPK/ERK-Mash2 axis. Inhibition of the MAPK/ERK pathway alleviated the EGF-mediated repression of SpT differentiation. These findings provide insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying trophoblast cell fate decisions.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the incidence and clinical course of histologic transformation (HT) in lung cancer patients with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations. The study found that approximately 3% of EGFR-mutated patients developed HT after acquiring resistance to EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). There was no significant difference in survival between patients with transformation to high-grade neuroendocrine carcinoma and those with transformation to another subtype of non-small cell lung cancer. Cytotoxic agents were likely to be effective in patients with HT, while the effectiveness of immune checkpoint inhibitors was limited.

Summary: Glioblastoma stem cells (GSCs) are self-renewing cells that can initiate tumors and are linked to tumor heterogeneity. Standard treatments fail to eradicate GSCs, leading to disease recurrence. Understanding the biology and survival mechanisms of GSCs is crucial for targeting them effectively.

Summary: The study presents a method for establishing and expanding human primary epidermal organoids under a chemically defined condition, which show tolerance to dermatophyte infections caused by Trichophyton Rubrum. This experimental model provides new insights into the pathogenesis of T. rubrum infections and serves as a potential tool for studying and testing antifungal drugs.

Summary: Cancer cells utilize sugar residues like sialic acids (Sia) to enhance their survival capability. This study reveals that deacetylated Sia renders lung and colon cancer cells sensitive to EGFR therapeutics by removing Sialate O-Acetyltransferase. The CIEAs induce cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, while decreasing the levels of downstream proteins in the EGFR pathway, providing insights for future therapeutic interventions.

Summary: This study assessed the frequency of lung cancer following breast cancer diagnosis and the associations between the two types of cancer. The results showed that breast cancer patients, especially those with low-grade malignancy, have a higher risk of developing primary lung cancer. Close follow-up is recommended for patients with isolated ground-glass nodules and high-risk factors. Additionally, EGFR may play an important role in primary lung adenocarcinomas and breast cancer.
