Summary: This article reviews evidence of paternal care and extended breeding bonds in primate species such as owl monkeys, baboons, Assamese macaques, mountain gorillas, and chimpanzees. It discusses the multiple pathways by which conditions conducive to male care can arise and highlights the difficulty of making inferences about the emergence of male care in early hominins based on single traits visible in the fossil record.

Summary: Phenotype alterations in domestic fowl can have negative effects on their welfare and increase the risk of aggression. This study analyzed the behavioral consequences of sequential phenotype alterations in stable social groups of adult birds. Results showed that aggression was significantly affected by phenotype alteration, with aggression directed towards the first altered birds. Long-term effects were observed, as victimized individuals had a submissive behavior and avoided aggressive encounters. This highlights the relevance of phenotype alteration on the social dynamics and welfare of affected birds.

Summary: Through behavioral assays and experiments, it was discovered that crawling northern yellow-shouldered bats are able to locate rewards based solely on odor cues. Distinct patterns in tracking behavior were observed, supporting the hypothesis that bats can effectively locate odor sources based on spatial awareness of experimental conditions. Contrary to existing models, bats did not display prominent head-scanning behaviors during their final approach, potentially due to limitations of nasal-emitted biosonar for orientation.

Summary: Information exchange between brain regions is crucial for understanding social decision-making, but its dynamic nature is often overlooked. This study used a multi-round bargaining game to identify switches between different bargaining strategies in healthy participants and proposed a novel model of dynamic effective connectivity to estimate information flow between key brain regions. The findings suggest that dynamic reconfiguration of the interaction between brain regions supports dynamic bargaining strategies during competitive social interactions.

Summary: Arginine-vasopressin and its V1a receptor play a critical role in regulating social behavior neural network. Gene edited hamsters with Avpr1a knockout showed unexpected increase in social communication behavior and elimination of gender differences in aggression towards conspecifics.

Summary: This study investigates sales manipulation strategies of high-quality and low-quality firms on a platform using game theoretical models. The findings show that a small amount of sales manipulation can harm each firm, and when only one firm manipulates its sales volume, it affects the total market share and the profit of the other firm. The study also reveals the conditions for firms' sales manipulation and its impact on the platform's profit.

Summary: Exacerbated aggression is a core symptom of several psychiatric disorders and can also affect women. Despite increasing evidence for sex-specificity, little is known about aggression in females. This study investigated the role of the oxytocin and arginine vasopressin systems in the central amygdala on aggressive behavior in female rats. The findings suggest that the central amygdala plays a moderate role in female aggression, and synthetic oxytocin and arginine vasopressin modulate aggressive behavior in female rats.

Summary: Transient sexual experiences can lead to long-lasting effects on behavioral decisions. This study found that ejaculation experience selectively activates Estrogen Receptor 2 (Esr2)-expressing neurons in the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST), resulting in persistent decreases in firing threshold for several days and sexual satiety in mice. Inhibition of hyperexcited BNSTEsr2 leads to fast mating recovery in satiated mice of both sexes, with larger HCN currents playing a role in reducing mating motivation in males.

Summary: In this paper, the authors reviewed myrmecovory (consumption of ants) in Neotropical primates and found that it is widespread but only accounts for a minor proportion of the diet on average. Different species exhibit variations in ant consumption behaviors, with the absence of tool use being a common feature.

Summary: Evidence of Orthopoxvirus (OPXV) infection has been detected for the first time in neotropical free-living primates in southeast Brazil, indicating their previous exposure to the virus. This finding is significant for understanding the transmission and infection risks of OPXV in primates.

Summary: Social comparisons during the purchase of public products can affect firms' pricing, quality, and product-line strategies. Greater social-comparison benefit reduces price competition and increases profits, while higher social-comparison cost intensifies price competition and decreases profits. Product quality differences and product-line extension strategies are also influenced by social comparisons.

Summary: This review presents the blind mole rat as an ideal neuroethological model for studying aggressive and solitary behaviors, discussing its unique behavioral phenotype and specialized sensory adaptations. Comparative studies between the blind mole rat and social rodents can provide important insights into the neural mechanisms underlying psychiatric disorders in humans.
