Summary: The purpose of this study was to increase the acceptance rate of lung cancer screening through shared decision-making during inpatient visits, particularly for patients who face barriers to seeking outpatient preventive care. Two pilot randomized trials showed that shared decision-making, combined with the assistance of a community health worker, can effectively improve the completion of lung cancer screening among inpatients. However, the feasibility of this intervention is limited by the presence of recent diagnostic chest CT scans among inpatients.

Summary: This article summarizes the existing evidence on interventions to reduce disparities in lung nodule evaluation, identifies knowledge gaps, and prioritizes research questions. Key knowledge gaps include a lack of standardized approaches to identify factors associated with disparities in lung nodule evaluation, limited data on the influence of social determinants of health, uncertainty regarding optimal strategies to improve patient-clinician communication, and a lack of information on the impact of patient navigators and culturally trained multidisciplinary teams.

Summary: This study examined the feasibility and acceptability of a 28-day SMS text messaging program tailored to individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) for smoking cessation support and addressing social determinants of health (SDOH). The results showed that providing smoking cessation support and addressing unmet SDOH needs during hospitalization through SMS text messaging was effective and well-received.
