Summary: This retrospective cohort study aimed to analyze the perinatal outcomes of Perinatally acquired HIV Infection (PHIV) in pregnant women. The study included singleton pregnancies in Women Living with HIV (WLH) between 2006 and 2019. The results showed that PHIV did not increase the risk of adverse perinatal outcomes. Rating: 9/10.

Summary: Africa has the highest number of pregnant women with HIV, which is associated with adverse perinatal outcomes. The use of antiretroviral therapy has helped reduce transmission and adverse fetal outcomes, but further research is needed to understand the placental mechanisms and fetal immune responses to maternal HIV infection.

Summary: The study found that CHIKV infection during pregnancy may protect against long-term joint pain, without increasing the risk of pregnancy complications or neonatal health issues. Maternal infection just prior to delivery might increase the risk of mother-to-child transmission of CHIKV.

Summary: This study evaluated the risk of adverse perinatal outcomes in pregnant women living with HIV (WLHIV) receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) compared to ART-naive WLHIV and HIV-negative women. The findings showed that WLHIV receiving ART had a lower risk of preterm birth, low birth weight, and other adverse perinatal outcomes compared to ART-naive WLHIV. However, they still had a higher risk of these outcomes compared to HIV-negative women.

Summary: The use of fourth-generation rapid diagnostic tests in identifying acute HIV infection is effective in early diagnosis and treatment, with regular repeat testing for those who test negative. The study showed a positivity rate of 3.32% among 27,298 rapid tests, with high viral loads detected in the p24 antigen group, initiating treatment promptly on the following working day.

Summary: This study reports on the implementation and effectiveness of a linkage-to-care intervention in rural South Africa, which involved tracking HIV-positive individuals through phone calls and home visits. The results showed that this intervention was effective in improving the linkage-to-care rate among patients.

Summary: The study analyzed treatment failure among adolescents with perinatally acquired HIV infection in a regional cohort in Asia, identifying the rate of treatment failure events, subsequent management, and impact on survival rates. Results showed that subsequent cART switching after treatment failure can lead to improved immunologic and virologic outcomes, but treatment failure is associated with an increased cumulative incidence of death and loss to follow-up.

Summary: Observational studies have shown that maternal sleep duration is associated with adverse pregnancy and perinatal outcomes. However, it is unclear whether there are nonlinear causal effects. This study used Mendelian randomization and multivariable regression to examine the nonlinear effects of sleep duration on various outcomes. The results suggest that shorter and longer sleep duration may increase the risks of stillbirth, perinatal depression, and low offspring birthweight.

Summary: This article summarizes the risk of sexual transmission of HIV from individuals with low-level viral loads and emphasizes its importance in public health. The review of 8 studies shows that the risk of HIV transmission is almost zero when viral loads are below 1000 copies per mL. These findings can help destigmatize HIV and promote adherence to antiretroviral therapy.

Summary: In this study, the researchers conducted a systematic review on the adverse perinatal outcomes associated with prenatal exposure to protease inhibitors (PI) based antiretroviral therapy (ART) compared with non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTI) based ART. The findings showed no significant association between prenatal exposure to PIs and most adverse perinatal outcomes, except for a significantly increased risk of very small for gestational age (VSGA).

Summary: Pregnant women receiving combined INSTI and TAF therapy have an increased risk of excess gestational weight gain. Pregnant women receiving combined INSTI and TAF therapy have an increased risk of excess gestational weight gain, while the use of tenofovir disoproxil fumarate may have a protective effect, regardless of INSTI use.

Summary: This study identified multiple interrelated barriers to adherence among ethnic minority women with HIV. Ethnic group-specific differences underscore the importance of implementing culturally-competent interventions. Participants suggested additional intervention features and endorsed the use of mCARES as a strategy to improve adherence to treatment and appointments, despite concerns about privacy and confidentiality.

Summary: Guided by Mcleroy's socio-ecological model, this study explored the predictors and social determinants of HIV treatment engagement among Black post-partum women living with HIV. The results showed that maternal prenatal health significantly affected both immediate post-partum and ongoing primary care engagement at the intrapersonal level, while HIV disclosure and intimate partner violence/abuse significantly affected immediate post-partum engagement at the interpersonal level. Immediate post-partum disengagement was also a significant predictor for ongoing primary care disengagement.

Summary: This study compared the endorsement of pandemic-related stress and support among participants attending an urban clinic in Southeastern Florida from January to May 2021. The results showed that long-term survivor women living with HIV (WLWH) had lower stress and higher support compared to their short-term survivor counterparts. These findings are important for understanding and addressing disparities within the WLWH population.

Summary: This study found that in HIV/STI-rich areas, transgender people have low awareness of anal cancer and related screening tools, and a low perception of personal risk of anal cancer. High-risk factors include smoking, STI history, and inconsistent condom use. Therefore, there is a need to increase awareness of anal cancer, risk factors, and screening methods.
