Summary: Work-related injuries are common and costly, especially when nerve damage is involved. Preventing work-related nerve dysfunction is challenging due to its multifactorial nature. Currently, there are no evidence-based guidelines for clinicians to evaluate work-related nerve dysfunction, making effective management difficult. Further research is needed to better understand the pathophysiology of chronic nerve injury and identify new targets for pharmacological interventions.

Summary: Objective safety plays a crucial role in supporting independent living among individuals with long-term healthcare and social care needs. This study explores how assistant nurses in home care adapt to ensure safe care, highlighting the importance of information, competence, and resources in meeting the demands. Proactive leadership, mutual trust, and decision-making support are suggested to enhance safety performance in home care. Managers and decision-makers in healthcare and social care should foster interprofessional collaborations and adaptive routines to promote safety from a broader perspective.

Summary: Research is needed to support the nurse practitioner workforce in nursing homes to ensure higher quality care for older adults. Nursing homes with optimal care environments that support nurse practitioner roles and relationships are better equipped to provide care for older adults. This study conducted qualitative interviews with nurse practitioners and identified three major themes impacting care environments: nurse practitioner practice, overall practice goals, and workplace challenges. The findings highlight the importance of nurse practitioner and physician relationships in nursing home care.

Summary: This study evaluated the quality of electronic nursing records in a residential care home through a criteria-based clinical audit, and implemented tailored interventions to improve the documentation practice. Although improvements were noted after the multifaceted intervention strategy, the standards for recommended nursing documentation practice were still not met in the re-audit. Further cycles of the clinical audit process are necessary to achieve sustained improvement in nursing documentation.

Summary: The aim of this study was to explore the practice experiences of home-based care nurses to understand their competency and needs. Through individual interviews with 17 nurses, it was found that nurses in home-based care perform a broader range of competencies with a significant degree of independence. The findings suggest a need for better understanding of the broader scope of nursing practice in home-based care to improve nurses' transition experience.

Summary: This study examined the impact of demographic characteristics, life experiences, and firefighting experiences on work-related injuries among female firefighters, and described the events surrounding such injuries. The findings revealed that older age, longer tenure in the fire service, and exposure to more fires and toxic substances were associated with a higher risk of injuries among female firefighters. Injured firefighters were more likely to have higher body weight, engage in tobacco use, and consume alcohol. Human error and firefighter fatigue were identified as the two most common factors contributing to work-related injuries. Additionally, a portion of the injured firefighters reported wearing protective equipment when injured, and some injuries led to the implementation of new policies.

Summary: This study investigated the factors associated with 1-year medical utilization and mortality in home health care (HHC) and nursing home care (NHC) recipients in Northern Taiwan. The results showed that compared to NHC recipients, HHC recipients had higher utilization of emergency department services and hospital admissions, as well as longer hospital length of stay. Policies should be developed to reduce emergency department and hospital utilization in HHC recipients.

Summary: This study analyzed the variability of COVID-19 case fatality rates (CFRs) among 21 countries and provided a more fair comparison by adjusting for multiple covariates. The study found that the variability in COVID-19 CFRs was associated with virus variants, reproduction rate, vaccination, age, extreme poverty rate, and diabetes prevalence. Therefore, comparing CFRs among countries should consider contextual factors.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of strengthening or relaxing face covering mandates on the COVID-19 incidence in Europe, taking into account the increasing vaccination rate. The results showed that after the relaxation of face covering mandates, the incidence of COVID-19 significantly increased, while a higher vaccination rate helped delay the resurgence of cases.
