Summary: This study identified co-occurring symptoms in cervical cancer survivors through patient-reported outcomes and physician-assessed morbidity. The analysis revealed clusters of organ-related symptoms (urinary, gastrointestinal, vaginal), a general symptoms cluster, and a cluster associated with nausea. The general symptoms cluster was found to be significantly associated with a decrease in quality of life.

Summary: This study aimed to predict the presence of simultaneous symptoms in breast cancer patients using a Bayesian network model and help clinicians prioritize symptom assessment. The research found that fatigue was the most prevalent symptom, and using the Bayesian network model accurately predicted other symptoms associated with fatigue.

Summary: The study found that maturity of psychological adaptive mechanisms was not significantly correlated with age, but higher PAM maturity was associated with fewer depression symptoms. Factors such as younger age and use of certain cancer medications were found to be associated with higher frequency of depression symptoms.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to explore the symptom clusters of gastric cancer patients receiving postoperative chemotherapy, identify the sentinel symptom of each symptom cluster, and compare the differences in sentinel symptoms based on different characteristics. A total of 245 patients who received postoperative gastric cancer chemotherapy were included in the study. Five symptom clusters were identified, with fatigue, nausea, sadness, taste alteration, and no clear sentinel symptom in the gastric-cancer-specific symptom cluster. Statistically significant differences were observed in fatigue, nausea, sadness, and taste alteration based on various characteristics. Understanding symptom clusters and sentinel symptoms can be beneficial for assessing and managing symptoms in postoperative gastric cancer patients during chemotherapy.

Summary: Body-worn sensors can provide valuable information for the management of Parkinson's disease and support treatment decisions based on objective monitoring. This study found a correlation between monitoring results and treatment adaptations, suggesting the potential for automated treatment modifications based on sensor recordings.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the progression free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) of patients with high-risk endometrial cancer (EC) who underwent sentinel lymph node (SLN) evaluation and pelvic +/- para-aortic lymphadenectomy (LND). The results showed no significant difference in the 3-year PFS between the SLN and LND groups, but the SLN group had a lower 3-year OS.

Summary: This study aims to measure the financial burdens of lung cancer therapy and investigate the link between financial toxicity and health-related quality of life. Results showed that younger age, lower income, and being employed but on sick leave were associated with higher levels of financial toxicity. Financial toxicity was moderately correlated with a decrease in quality of life.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate symptom severity, symptom cluster trajectories and sentinel symptoms during chemotherapy cycle 1 in lung cancer patients. Patients completed the MD Anderson Symptom Inventory and First Appearance of Symptoms Time Sheet daily during the first week of chemotherapy cycle 1. Latent class growth analysis was used to examine symptom cluster trajectories, and the Apriori algorithm was used to determine sentinel symptoms based on the time of first appearance.

Summary: This study introduces the first global interactive assessment tool of coastal eutrophication potential based on Google Earth Engine, finding that approximately 1.15 million square kilometers of coastal waters globally have eutrophic potential. Areas with eutrophication potential, indicated by increasing trends in satellite-derived chlorophyll-a, are twice as large as those showing signs of recovery. The tool effectively identifies regions with severe symptoms of eutrophication, as well as areas with limited to no information on eutrophication.

Summary: This study assessed the stability of symptom clusters during disease progression and their association with survival in advanced cancer patients. Three distinct symptom clusters were identified: neuro-psycho-metabolic, gastrointestinal, and sleep impairment. The presence of the neuro-psycho-metabolic cluster and hospitalization were independently associated with worse survival.

Summary: Endogenous estrogens are associated with breast cancer risk, particularly in postmenopausal women. Nutritional and exercise interventions have been shown to modify estrogen levels and metabolism, potentially reducing the risk of breast cancer. Studies combining diet and exercise interventions demonstrate better control of estrogen forms and levels, suggesting they may be the most effective strategies for preventing breast cancer in postmenopausal women.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of malnutrition risk among solid tumor oncology patients at diagnosis. It found that 28% of patients were at high risk of malnutrition, with breast cancer patients rarely having malnutrition risk at diagnosis. Significant variations in malnutrition risk were observed based on cancer site, stage, race, and symptoms like depression, distress, fatigue, and eating/swallowing difficulties.

Summary: This study examined the prevalence and characteristics of taste and smell abnormalities (TSAs) in advanced cancer patients and their impact on subjective food intake. Results showed that all 30 participants had either subjective or objective TSAs, and these abnormalities significantly affected their food intake. Despite the significant effect on health and quality of life, none of the patients received any nutrition counseling on TSA management.

Summary: Little is known about the use of palliative and hospice care and their impact on healthcare utilization near the end of life in early-onset pancreatic cancer patients. This study found that while there were early referrals to palliative care, the duration of hospice enrollment was short and healthcare utilization prior to death was substantial. Black race and late use of chemotherapy were independently associated with an increase in ED visits/hospitalization and hospital place of death.
