Summary: This study evaluated the EGJ distensibility of GERD patients compared to normal controls using EndoFLIP. The results showed that the EGJ distensibility of GERD patients was significantly higher than that of normal subjects, regardless of the presence of reflux esophagitis. This suggests that measuring EGJ distensibility with the EndoFLIP. system could be useful for the diagnosis of GERD.

Summary: The study found that serum CYR61 levels were significantly lower in EGJ tumor and early-stage EGJ tumor patients compared to normal controls. As a biomarker, CYR61 demonstrated a sensitivity of 88.2% and specificity of 43.8% with an AUC of 0.691 in EGJ tumor, and a sensitivity of 80.0% and specificity of 66.4% with an AUC of 0.722 in early-stage EGJ tumor. There was no correlation between clinical data and CYR61 levels.

Summary: The study found a higher prevalence of distal GERD in overweight individuals and COPD patients, which was associated with TGP and DeMeester score. Obesity and COPD appear to be primary factors for GERD but not directly for proximal reflux.

Summary: This study evaluated the association between multichannel intraluminal impedance and pH testing (MII-pH) and 3-year pulmonary outcomes in IPF patients. Increased bolus exposure time (BET) on MII-pH was found to be an independent predictor of poor pulmonary outcomes and mortality over 3 years in IPF patients.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of MSA on the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) and esophageal body using high resolution impedance manometry. The findings showed that MSA improved LES characteristics without affecting esophageal peristaltic progression and bolus clearance.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between psychological symptoms and reflux phenotype along the GERD spectrum in refractory reflux patients. The findings suggest that psychological symptoms do not differ across reflux phenotypes and do not predict reflux phenotype membership in refractory reflux patients.

Summary: Laparoscopic local gastrectomy is a safe and effective treatment for mesenchymal tumors in the esophagogastric junction. The choice of surgical approach depends on the relationship between the tumor and the cardia, and it has achieved excellent short-term outcomes.

Summary: The study aimed to determine age-specific normal values in healthy infants using the Infant Gastroesophageal Reflux Questionnaire Revised (I-GERQ-R). The results showed that reflux symptoms decrease in the first 24 months of life in healthy infants. Validation as a diagnostic tool for GER-disease using age-appropriate normal values is needed.

Summary: The K-ECAN tool was developed to predict the occurrence of esophageal adenocarcinoma and gastric cardia adenocarcinoma using electronic health records data, and it showed better discrimination than other validated models. However, further validation and implementation in electronic health records are needed.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the role of EGJ-CI in patients with refractory GERD symptoms and found that EGJ-CI is inversely correlated with acid exposure time and reflux episodes, while positively correlated with MNBI, distal contractile integral, lower esophageal sphincter basal pressure, and integrated relaxation pressure. In addition, patients with a low EGJ-CI had a significantly lower MNBI level compared to those with a high EGJ-CI.

Summary: This study investigated the safety, tolerability, pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacogenomics of zastaprazan. The results showed that zastaprazan effectively suppressed gastric acid secretion and exhibited favorable pharmacokinetic properties. The evaluation indicated that zastaprazan is safe and suitable for the treatment of acid-related diseases.

Summary: This study aims to achieve international consensus on the new definitions of Barrett's esophagus, gastro-esophageal junction, and gastro-esophageal junctional zone, which will provide support for future research addressing many issues concerning this important anatomical area and hopefully lead to improved classification and management of diseases related to the gastro-esophageal junction.

Summary: The digestion and satiation response of lipid emulsions (LEs) in vivo were studied using three novel LEs stabilized by different emulsifiers. It was found that Pickering LEs have an extraordinary capability to prevent lipolysis, making them suitable for oral delivery systems. The interfacial design of LEs modulates in vivo digestion and satiation response in humans.
