Summary: IBS-D and IBS-M are disorders of gut-brain interaction with multifactorial pathophysiology. Treatment involves non-pharmacological (dietary modification, psychotherapy) and pharmacological therapies (such as rifaximin, eluxadoline). Future therapies may include faecal microbial transplant and serotonin antagonists, but further studies are needed.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association between immediate pain relief from injections of local anesthetic with corticosteroid and subsequent pain relief. The results showed that immediate pain relief does not have a high predictive value for longer-term pain relief. Most patients obtained pain relief within 4 days of receiving corticosteroid injections.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of mild moxibustion (MM) for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D) and compare them with placebo moxibustion. The findings suggest that mild moxibustion may be more effective than placebo moxibustion for the treatment of IBS-D, with effects lasting up to 12 weeks.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the efficacy and adverse effects of intravenous meperidine and inhaled nitrous oxide for intrapartum analgesia in multiparous patients. The results showed that there was no difference in pain intensity between the two groups 20-30 minutes after administration of the analgesics. Additionally, there were no significant differences in the need for additional analgesia, labor length, delivery mode, maternal and neonatal adverse effects, and patient satisfaction between the groups. Therefore, meperidine and nitrous oxide have similar efficacy and safety in intrapartum analgesia for multiparous patients.

Summary: The study compared two diets and examined the effectiveness of combining a probiotic with the diets for treating IBS-D patients. The CSF restricted diet and IgG restricted diet showed synergy in improving IBS symptoms, with the IgG restricted diet contributing more. The IgG restricted diet combined with Bifidobacteria was found to be the best dietary choice.

Summary: Although both elderly patients with severe dementia and those without cognitive impairment showed a decrease in BIS values after midazolam sedation, the dementia-positive group had a significant 9% decrease in the nTHI, reflecting cerebral blood flow. However, midazolam sedation did not significantly differentiate the nTHI between the dementia-positive and dementia-negative groups. The measured values in the dementia-negative group did not differ from baseline, while sedation with midazolam in the dementia-positive group resulted in a 9% decrease in cerebral blood flow.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of Hengli(R) Chinese botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) in Chinese patients with overactive bladder. The results showed that Hengli(R) BTX-A treatment had significant benefits in reducing the number of daily micturition episodes, improving urgency episodes, micturition volume, and OABSS score. Adverse events included increased post-void residual urine volume, dysuria, and urinary tract infection, most of which were mild or moderate.
